It make shock people to know that Beagles are used as lab testing animals by companies across the country because of their calm personalities and eagerness to please. Medical and research labs buy the beagles with the blessing of the USDA straight from puppy mill breeders. These dogs go straight from one hell to another to live out their lives in a wire cage.
Beagle Freedom Project began in December 2010 when Shannon Keith received information that beagles who were used for animal experiments in a research lab were to be given a chance at freedom. Our mission is rescuing and finding homes for beagles used in laboratory research.
Beagles are the most popular breed for lab use because of their friendly, docile, trusting, forgiving, people-pleasing personalities. The research industry says they adapt well to living in a cage, and are inexpensive to feed. Research beagles are usually obtained directly from commercial breeders who specifically breed dogs to sell to scientific institutions.
Testing done on beagles in university and other research facilities includes medical/pharmaceutical, household products and cosmetics. When they are no longer wanted for research purposes, some labs attempt to find homes for adoptable, healthy beagles. Working directly with these labs, Beagle Freedom Project is able to remove and transport beagles to place them in loving homes.
Shannon is the president and founder of Beagle Freedom Project. Shannon is also an animal rights attorney and international speaker on animal rights issues. She will share with us her recent dramatic rescues and will be taking your questions.
Also joining us is dog trainer Colleen Demling to talk about training needs of rescue dogs, and Sarah Hoddinott of Lab Rescue of the LRCP

So the verdict is in: eating meat at the rate we do in America is depleting resources and polluting others. The natural response would be, "Well we need to change our processes and eat less meat." Well scientists are taking half of this advice. They are changing the way meat is "made". It is being created in a lab with chemicals and other GMO ingredients and is currently in taste tests. Find out more about it June 4th at 12pm (CST)
