Once upon a time, Jason Kidd's son, T.J., dressed up as Brian Scalabrine for Halloween. This was back when T.J. was smallish, the Jason-Joumana marriage was rock solid, and the Nets played in the dreary confines of the Meadowlands, where T.J. had his own locker.
I only got to make a brief reference to that small piece of Scalabrine history this morning in an interview on Sirius-XM NBA radio, partly because Scalabrine was busy predicting that Kobe Bryant will shoot 37 percent this season for a Lakers team that will not make the playoffs.
As for whether this will be Kobe's last season, Scals and I had a little disagreement.
He believes Kobe will take a subjugated role on a 2016-17 Lakers team that could add a pair of max free agents.
I believe Kobe is too much of a diva to come off the bench as an 18-minute per night player ... but that does not mean I believe this season will be Kobe's final one. (That will be determined by the level he is playing at.)

As I reported last week from Las Vegas, there is a possibility that Kobe makes his swan song as a member of the U.S. Olympic team, ending his career atop the gold medal podium in Rio.
Speaking of the Olympics, that also came up for discussion in our interview. There are going to be four teams from the FIBA-Americas region, which will account for one-third of the field. Why won't the IOC expand from 12 teams with so many worthy candidates out there who could boost the caliber of the competition?
That answer, plus much more, in this podcast with Scalabrine & Jonathan Hood.

Talking NFL, discussing the NFC and AFC Championship games. Going to give you my breakdown and picks. Also, we going to Los Angeles talking about the Lakers. Why after a great career, Kobe Bryant needs to leave that 25 million on the table and take his exit after this season. It has nothing to do with his loss of abilities. Come Join me @ 6:30pm as I go the only way I know: Strong!
The Los Angeles Lakers are off to their worst start in franchise history starting the 2014-15 season at 1-9. Kobe Bryant, who returned this season from injuries that kept him out for the majority of last season, has performed mightily but is in a situation nowhere close to warranting any success in these final years of his career.
Martin offers a fresh perspective and new theory on what Kobe might consider should he hit the wall and say enough is enough. Journalists and media (and Tyler, who said back in August that the Lakers ought to send Kobe over to the New York Knicks) like to speculate the trade possibilities involving Bryant, but the loyalty between the Lakers and Kobe is paramount. At this rate, it is perfectly clear that his NBA career will end in a Laker uniform.
But what if Kobe didn't end his career in the NBA? Take a listen to Martin's theory. Tweet us @BBallsociety_ or Martin @marley_mcfly on Twitter and gives us your thoughts.

Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers are used to contending for championships, but through five games the team is tied with the Philadelphia 76ers (0-6) for the fewest wins in the league -- zero.
Bryant’s disdain for losing and the struggles of the Lakers prompted an interesting question: Would the Lakers and Knicks benefit from a trade involving Bryant?
New York has Phil Jackson, the Triangle offense and cap space to absorb Bryant’s contract and the Lakers aren’t going to contend this season with or without the team’s longtime superstar.
Conversely, the Houston Rockets were undefeated until Saturday night after some experts believed the team would take a step back with the loss of Chandler Parsons and free agency addition of Trevor Ariza.
In the Eastern Conference, the Cleveland Cavaliers have gotten off to a slow start (2-3) and not dominated out of the gate as many predicted.
With that in mind, Michael Scotto of SheridanHoops joined Yahoo! Sports Radio to discuss the struggles of the Lakers and Cavaliers, the rumors surrounding Bryant and how James Harden and Dwight Howard have carried the Rockets.
Tonight we go over a couple of the more interesting stories in the NBA, starting with Derrick Rose's health and Kobe Bryant's level of play over the first few weeks of the season. In coollege basketball, numerous interesting games took place today, with the Champions Classic featuring Duke-Michigan State and Kentucky-Kansas.
We'll recap those two games, talk a little about each of those four teams and run through some of the other top-25 games in college basketball. Can Wichita State win another 35-plus games this season?

I on the other hand will argue that he is and prove why I feel the way I do. This will be like a Saturday morning at the barbershop. So make sure you tell your friends and family. And we look forward to hearing for you all as well. Our call in number is 619-393-2813
