REASONING With WERNER KAJNATH, FRIDAY, MAY 24th, 2013:::
Werner would like to draw attention to the COMPLETE ANTHOLOGY, stemming from the entire music catalog of Jamaica's first successful recording artists, the duo, HIGGS & WILSOM, who are, of course, the late, legendary, JOE HIGGS and his partner, the late, legendary, ROY WILSON. The duo's first recording, and first #1 song, entitled, "MANNY OH," sold over 50,000 copies at its release in 1959. Their monumental single, "THERE'S A REWARD," came in 1960, and was followed by more #1 hits on the Jamaican radio charts. This success had the duo performing alongside American legends, such as, Sam Cooke and Fats Domino.
According to the history of Jamaican music, it was JOE HIGGS who mentored a host of reggae lagends we all know and love today. Those he tutored include, but are not limited to, BOB MARLEY, PETER TOSH, BUNNY WAILER, JIMMY CLIFF, WAILING SOULS, DERRICK HARRIET and JUDY MOWATT. In the early 1960's and 70's, HIGGS was commonly known as the "CHOIRMASTEROF ALL." In the early 1980's he was called the "GODFATHER OF REGGAE." In the early 90's he was dubded, "FATHER OF REGGAE."
This precious music of HIGGS & WILSON is recorded 1959 - 1969 and the anthology include all their 30 tracks with many great hits of the time, like Manny Oh.
