Many folks who have had a brain injury are left with many residual effects. Therapies such as physical, occupational, and speech are offered in hospitals and rehab centers. Neuropsych is also offered, but the services for each of these therapies is limited. So what do folks do who still have needs? Tonight Julie Kintz, brain-injury survivor, will focus on the needs of the brain-injured. She will talk to us about the "Clubhouse" model, which provides a safe haven for those who live with mental illness after brain injury. Zachary Stilwell, a member of the Clubhouse in Fort Wayne, Indiana, will stop by to share his thoughts, too.
Every TBI survivor and caregiver has encountered a fork in the road that has diverted his or her life-plan. A car accident, a fall from the roof, doing one more chin-up, or a door literally slamming one in the face are just some causes of traumatic brain injury. College plans, walking down the aisle in the perfect dress, or the coveted job quickly slip from reality as dreams turn to struggle. These unexpected life-happenings that divert one from his or her chosen path in life can be devastating. But as Yogi Berra once said, "If you come to a fork in the road, take it." Life is all about choices!
