Mitch McConnell Feeling Heat in KY; Anthony Lewis Dies at 85
Mitch McConnell Feeling Political Heat in Kentucky as Popularity Plummets Mitch McConnell may be in the fight for his life as he attempts to run for an unprecedented sixth term as senator from Kentucky. Although 60 percent of the Kentucky electorate voted for Mitt Romney, many voters now see McConnell as too willing to compromise with Democrats. Sensing vulnerability, Kentucky’s Democrats feel that this is their chance. For the past few months, the actress Ashley Judd has floated the possibility, receiving praise, criticism and a lot of attention, until announcing yesterday that she has decided not to run. Attention has switched to the young and photogenic Kentucky Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes but the 34-year-old has yet to enter the race. We talk to Steve Voss, Political Science Professor, University of Kentucky Pulitzer Prize Winning New York Times Supreme Court Correspondent Anthony Lewis Dies at 85 Anthony Lewis was already a Pulitzer Prize winning journalist when he became the Supreme Court correspondent for the New York Times. Since then he largely changed the way the high court is covered, wrote best-selling books about key decisions and earned yet another Pulitzer Prize. Lewis is credited with breathing life into Court coverage by getting into the law behind it. Lewis eventually left the post and moved to London for a while but came back for a Times column in which he continued to write about the law among other things. During all of this, Lewis became known – as Nicholas Lehmenn, Columbia’s Journalism School Dean put it – one of the defining liberal voices. Vincent Blasi, Constitutional Law Professor and Columbia University Law School who co-taught courses with Lewis.
