See Hear Yoko captures the rich complexity of Yoko Ono—woman, artist, activist, wife and mother—from her days with John Lennon through the present, with intimate portraits by the legendary rock-and-roll photographer Bob Gruen, and words by Ono herself, edited from conversations with Jody Denberg, rock radio’s “Voice of Austin, Texas.”
Conceived expressly for Yoko Ono as a gift between friends on the occasion of her eightieth birthday, and published at her personal request, See Hear Yoko is legendary rock-and-roll photographer Bob Gruen’s tribute to an icon of contemporary American cultural history, from her days with John Lennon up through the present. Gruen, who served as personal photographer to Lennon and Ono during their years in New York City, has collaborated with his friend, Austin rock radio mainstay Jody Denberg, who edited twenty-five years of interviews with Yoko for the book’s text.
In this breathtaking volume, Gruen has selected more than two-hundred classic color and black-and-white photographs that intimately illuminate the life of Yoko Ono at the height of her fame as a woman, wife, mother and avant-garde artist (who keeps creating, she says, because “That’s who I am.”) Yoko’s role as peace activist and artist underscores the enduring legacy of the era of rock-and-roll. See Hear Yoko reveals a modern woman in love, in ascension, in grief, in joy and in peace.
Lavish and beautiful, mirroring the deeply personal design of the original volume given to Yoko herself, See Hear Yoko brings into focus an extraordinary woman and one of the most memorable periods in modern history.
Sometimes outside others have the notion that if a Black man gets a good education, they lose their soul. They ten-foot-pole themselves from their roots, which I don't get, when you are confident, and educated, like brothers Eric & Mark Harris are, your swag is different, but that doesn't mean they void their BLACK, because they are true to the cause and make every effort to represent, which they do, right here on the Jay King Network. A stellar show, and very informative and full of nuggets of information. 347-205-9366. Call in to listen, and maybe participate. You will NOT be disappointed, ever.
THEN it's KITM, on the JKN - KINGS IN THE MORNING. When you get a chance, let the network know if we should keep Robert Redwine as a special guest, or if we should just drop him completely. WE AT THE JKN want to really really know - if you don't mind. 347-205-9366.

This Grammy-winning superstar knows a thing or two about life, love and balance. “I’ve always been a grounded person. Being an artist is different than being a celebrity. Having a life that you’re comfortable with when you go to sleep at night is incredibly important to me.” Always a fashion-forward visionary and trendsetter, Jody brings an empowering message to BOLD, offering can’t-miss advice on how to create your own sanctuary at home. “It’s not about going to Maui. It starts right where you are.” Despite her massive success and stream of monster hits (“Looking for a New Love,” “Still a Thrill,” “Real Love,” “Friends”), Jody–like everyone else–has had her ups and downs. “I pour a lot of myself into the music. When I left the group Shalamar for a solo career, people said I wouldn’t make it. Winning the Grammy for Best New Artist was like being rewarded by God and the universe for stepping out on faith.” Available on iTunes, her latest album “Paradise” features retro funk and recalls the disco and soul records that inspired her iconic musical style. “It takes the soul and spirit of those classic sounds and blends them together with electronica.” Jody’s official website is www.jodywatley.net. Impossible to go into the conference finals without talking about the team that should have made it but didn't -- the Los Angeles Clippers. My take: They are not cursed. They were merely too thin, and they didn't have the fortitude to finish the job.
And if the Houston Rockets taught us all one thing during their series against Doc Rivers' team, it was this: Never give up, no matter how bleak things seem.
But that series is behind us, and we now move into the conference finals wondering exactly what we are going to see. Hack-a-Howard? Hack-a-Bogut? Corey Brewer defending Stephen Curry. Or maybe Trevor Ariza taking on that task. Or even pesky old man Pablo Prigioni. That series is going to be a chess match for sure, and we may end up seeing Klay Thompson being the most important player in the series. As mentioned yesterday in our staff predictions column, Thompson is the leading 3-point shooter, accuracy-wise, of all the players still playing.
And that allows us to turn our attention to Kyle Korver (35 percent from downtown in the postseason) and the Atlanta Hawks, who went 3-1 against the Cavs during the regular season while using DeMarre Carroll as the primary defender on LeBron James. This site has already devoted considerable attention to the amount of money Carroll is earning during these playoffs, and whether it behooves him to sign a one-year contract so that he can reap the rewards of being a max player when the salary cap jumps to $90 million 13 months from now. If the Hawks are able to win this series (they are a 1 1/2 point favorite in Game 1, it will postpone Northeast Ohio's dream of ending its 51-year championship drought.)
All these plots and subplots were up for discussion in this podcast with Jody Oehler and Mike Jurecki on FOX Sports 910 in Phoenix. Enjoy.
