Hear Mike Silva give his thoughts on the ankle injury to Joba Chamberlain, Fred Wilpon surviving the Madoff trial, and Chipper Jones impending retirement on the latest Grapefruit Roundup.
Al and HookSlide sum up a great of week of Tigers baseball, keep expectations for Robbie Ray under control, wonder how much it would cost to keep Victor Martinez versus signing Country Breakfast, MOAR ZUBAZ, and realize the NFL can be embarrassingly over-the-top.
Bless You Boys Podcast 111 was recorded May 9, 2014, has a running time of 1:03, and features Al Beaton and HookSlide.
That was one Hell of a good week of Detroit Tigers baseball ... though it was was due to their thumping mediocre to bad competition.
Is the division all but in the Tigers' back pocket less than six weeks into the season?
Robbie Ray impresses in debut.
Before we get too excited over Ray, remember Andy Van Hekken and Andrew Miller?
Victor Martinez is not slowing down and is making a case for a contract extension. Should the Tigers consider it?
Joba Chamberlain spreads the Zubaz virus. But bad taste in clothes = good clubhouse.
The Tigers accommodate the Detroit Lions by moving the start time of their game on Monday September 8 to 4 PM, giving the 7 PM start to the Detroit Lions. Considering where the two teams stand in their respective sports (title contender vs. laughingstock), the better team backed down for the sake of the fans.
NFL vs. MLB.
More bullpen talk, because the podcast would not be complete otherwise.
A weekly look at the 2014 Detroit Tigers, where they stand after each previous week in the regular season, and the predictions of each week ahead. Call in at (646) 478-4837 to join in on the conversation or voice your quick opinion.
This week, the Tigers wrap up their 9-game homestand against the Chicago White Sox, and then they head to Target Field and take on the Minnesota Twins for the first time this season. It's an extremely tight race in the American League Central Division, but the Tigers are clinging to their division lead. Some portions of their bullpen are improving, including Joba Chamberlain and closer Joe Nathan, but left-handed middle relief pitcher Phil Coke continues to be their worst problem after gelling for a couple games on the road earlier this month. Should he have been let go unconditionally? What does the rest of their bullpen need to do to improve?
I also look ahead to the conclusion of the Tigers' current road trip, which ends with a 2-game series at Kauffman Stadium against the Kansas City Royals. Then they return home to welcome the Twins into Comerica Park. I also take a quick review of the unofficial 2014 Major League Baseball Standings.
Other Detroit sports updates: I'll take a quick look at Game 5 between the Red Wings and Bruins in the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals in the NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs. The Bruins were leading this series 3 games to 1 heading back to Boston. If any other Detroit sports update comes up, I'll bring that to you as well.
