Whether as a solo artist or in a duet with with Helen Cornelius, JIM ED BROWN never fails to make magic with a song. But, any discussion about the career of Jim Ed would have to begin with the years he spent singing with his sisters Maxine and Bonnie as The Browns. Recording together for well over a decade, the trio put together a catalouge that included “Lookin’ Back To See,” “I Heard The Bluebirds Sing,” and their iconic 1959 crossover record “The Three Bells.”
Looking back on that family blend of harmony that brought him to the dance, Jim Ed says his singing with his siblings never really had a beginning point. It was just something that always was a part of life, growing up in Sparkman, Arkansas. “We started singing when we were young kids. I lost my little brother when I was nine years old, and I remember he and I sang together. We would listen to Daddy’s old battery operated radio. If it was a clear night, we might be able to pick up the Grand Ole Opry,” he recalls.
Jim Ed's easy going nature and movie-star good looks led to a long career on television – with stints on his own The Country Place TV show in the early 1970s, Nashville On The Road, and You Can Be A Star – which helped launch many of Music City’s greatest, including Linda Davis. Then, in 1976, fate – and Chet Atkins stepped in again. “Chet found this song, and gave it to Bob Ferguson – who was my producer at the time. It was a great song - ‘I Don’t Want To Have To Marry You.’ I wanted to do it solo, but he wanted me to do it as a duet. He said he wanted me to cut it with Helen Cornelius."
Jim Ed Brown joins me on the show to talk about his music career and new album In Style Again.
"I think the biggest issue in marriage is boundary problems. Spouses so often try to change the other in the name of helpfulness. The truth is the only person you can change is you. You married them the way they are. If they're a slob, they probably were since childhood. The best you're going to do is change your response."

Author Jeff Hastings will be stopping by The Author Chat show as part of his WNL virtual book tour to 'chat' with me about his book, The Most Successful Failure in the World.
About the book:
When a terminal diagnosis puts Alex’s non-stop working and partying life on a six-month deadline, things draw into tight perspective for the CEO and founder of Moss Global. He realizes that while he achieved everything he’d ever set out to do, the regret over what he’d sacrificed for success weighs heavily on his heart. He can’t go back in time, but can he change his daughter’s future? Or will the business he built tear her apart too?
About the author:
Jeff Hastings knows all about the good intentions that pave the road to success. He has been in your shoes and experienced great triumphs and tribulation and has lived to tell the tale. As a small business owner, he developed one of the largest and most productive sales teams in the Farmers Insurance Group of Companies. His team of over 60 insurance agents and 150 support staff generated an estimated $85 million in annualized premium. Meet author David Merkatz, he's the author of the book Wrongly Charged: A Look at the Legal System.
This book is making quite an impact due to some of the recent headlines dealing with police and abuse of power.
About the book:
What would you do if you were arrested and wrongly charged with a crime? It can happen in the blink of an eye. It’s not supposed to happen in the United States, but it can at any time. After being advised by his attorney in 2013 that his new marketing strategy was legal, Florida locksmith David Merkatz was shocked to learn he was under criminal investigation. Then he was arrested and charged with money laundering and an organized scheme to defraud. With the flip of a switch, he was facing a 20-year prison sentence. He was terrified. Life as he knew it was over, and it happened in an instant. But David Merkatz was determined to fight back.
About the author:
Until 2013, David Merkatz made his living as a locksmith in Coconut Creek, FL. Life, he thought, was pretty good. While there were some trademark issues with his business, he was making a living and enjoying his life. That all changed August of 2013, when police arrested David Merkatz and charged him and two of his fellow locksmiths, Peter Lomagistro and Joshua Levy, with a host of crimes ranging from money laundering to petty theft.
Meet author Jasma Starks. I'll be interviewing her on the show about her new book, Purpose Will Prevail: Principals To Activate And Walk In Your Divine Purpose.
About the book:
Your purpose was the catalyst for your birth. Prior to being conceived in your mother’s womb, your life already had meaning. Because we’re human, however, we were bound to sin and become victims of fear. Sin separates us from God, fear keeps us limited to living unfilled lives, and both subjects us to silence. When silent, we allow the enemy to bully us and keep us in bondage. Before purpose can be born or released, there is a process. Purpose Will Prevail walks you through that process by giving you a set of principles that will help you acknowledge your authority and loosen the grips of fear and addiction so that you are freed to activate and walk in your divine purpose. In this book, Jasma Starks challenges each of us to take full responsibility in aligning our lives with that of God’s word so that we may not only discover our purpose, but fulfill and protect it as well.
About the author:
A powerful prayer warrior, Jasma Starks has the remarkable ability to make God’s word plain and understandable. With a heart to spread the gospel throughout the world and elevate the name of Jesus Christ, she has devoted her life to teaching this generation of believers how to hear the voice of God and align their ways with His in order to take their lives from mediocre to meaningful.
Currently residing in St. Louis, Missouri, Jasma seeks, wholeheartedly, to please God in all her ways while implementing progressive change in her circle of influence. In March of 2015, she birthed Purpose will Prevail to activate passionate people to walk in their divine purpose. For more information, be sure to visit www.JasmaStarks.com.
On the verge of opening his own law practice, Jeff Brown heard a little
voice telling him to stop. He honored this and began a heartfelt quest
for the truth that lived within him. His book, Soulshaping is his true
story, and every person's journey, from self-alienation to
soul-satisfaction in this modern life. Jeff believes that whatever sort
of solution you seek, you'd better include the real world vs being an
isolated monk on a mountain top. He discovered that spirituality and
personal growth doesn't always involve sweetness and light.
Jim and Jeff will discuss that transition from being asleep to awakening
to your true purpose. Plus the misguided self-concepts that are fed to
us by the outer world, and how to begin our own private revolution–a
revolution of the spirit. That journey is all about the inner world, the
inner wild, the inner break for freedom from the shackles of old
A former criminal lawyer and psychotherapist, Jeff Brown is the author
