Scott Yanow (Bio):
.....Jazz Journalist and historian. Since then, I have been involved in many projects. Being the Senior Editor for the 3rd edition of the All Music Guide For Jazz resulted in a countless number of my CD reviews and biographies being utilized throughout the internet including Pandora Radio. In addition to having written ten books so far (most recently The Jazz Singers) and writing for the Jazz Heritage Club, I have written several episodes for the popular jazz radio series Jim Cullum's Riverwalk - Live At The Landing.
I have written over 750 liner notes, hundreds of press biographies and press releases, and it has been said that I have reviewed more jazz recordings than anyone in history. I have contributed to virtually all of the major jazz magazines including Downbeat, Jazz Times, Jazziz, Cadence, Coda, The Mississippi Rag, Jazz Forum, Jazz News, The Jazz Report, Planet Jazz, Jazz Now and Jazz
Improv. These days I write regularly for Jazz Inside, Downbeat, Jazziz, Los Angeles Jazz Scene and The Jazz Rag.....Learn More

Lee Ritenour made quite a splash four years ago with his A Twist of Jobim CD, in which he pulled together a rotating cast of all-stars to offer a program of contemporary jazz updates of classics from the Antonio Carlos Jobim songbook. He’s used the same formula for his latest offering, A Twist of Marley.

It's such a privilege to have the friendship of Norman Woods - who is also known by his Jazz Poet moniker. He has changed it a few times but this current name will stick (I'm convinced!) N-Side The Healer seems right. Especially when you get to know Norman :) From the San Francisco Bay area, he is also a screenwriter and a music publisher. And has had epiphanies in his life that beg to be shared. Like homelessness. And true psychological challenges. In his poetry, N-Side shares those struggles as well as his triumphs. He asks questions - and sometimes he answers them himself. But he wants US to think. Way beneath the surface. Norman's not much for "surface." When you've been on the street, you get to see people at their best and worst. He has never forgot that lesson or any other that he has learned. Hear it for yourself via "Living in the Poetry Hotel" - we'll hear three tracks from this latest project by our beloved friend.
Kim Waters joins us on 8/20! This immensely popular saxophonist is celebrating 25 years of giving us joy - that instrument has produced four # 1 albums and more than a dozen # 1 singles. Kim is from Maryland and folks in the state can tell you - he's a "Hometown Hero!" And it's terrific to know that he returning to this region for a special date at The Birchmere in Alexandria, Virginia. Here's the reason why: Kim has a new CD on the way! Called "Silver Soul", it's full of original music - our "hero" wrote ten of the twelve tracks :) Sharing the immensely warm vibe on the album: Kim's talented wife, Dana Pope, as well as Eric Roberson and the teen actress/singer, Zendaya. We'll hear classic tracks from Kim and get the lowdown on his new & exciting life! C U in The Chat Room!
