Arriving by train from Washington D.C. on July 18, 1855 was slaver Col. John H. Wheeler of North Carolina; and a black enslaved woman Jane Johnson; and her two sons, Daniel and Isaiah. Wheeler was the American minister to Nicaragua, and his party was passing through, on their way to New York. Wheeler left Jane and her sons locked in a hotel room, giving specific instructions not to talk to any of the black hotel staff. Jane, however, did just that, informing a black worker that she was a slave who wanted to be free. The hotel worker drafted a note to William Still, the African American head of the Vigilance Committee of the local Underground Railroad, and sent it off to Still at the Pennsylvania Anti-Slavery Society office at 153 N. 5th St.(C). Still alerted his white colleague, Passmore Williamson, at his office on 7th and Arch (point D), and they raced off to the hotel. They arrived as the 5 o’clock ferry was about to depart and approached the Wheeler party accompanied by five black dockworkers -- John Ballard, James P. Braddock, William Curtis, James Martin and Isaac Moore -- who quickly perceived the situation. Still told Jane that under Pennsylvania law she was a free woman and could leave Wheeler here and now if she wished.
Join Michael Anthony Johnson as we explore the scriptures, especially in I Thessalonians Chapter 1 today! God said he would give "you the treasures of darkness and hidden wealth of secret places, so that you may know that it is I, the Lord God of Israel, who called all you by name!
How do you know scripturally that you are called? We discussed last week that the "wise, after the flesh, the mighty and the noble are not called" but God has chosen the foolish things of this world to confound and overturn the wise!
Don't miss this exciting time in the Word, and the exciting season that you, your family, friends and ministry can experience just by staying prayerful and hearing what "the spirit is saying to the church!"
You are ready! You are Set! Why haven't you left that place yet?
For some of you, it's time to move on to the things of God!

Dr. Jane Leserman, who will be speaking at the International Pelvic Pain Society conference this October, is a medical sociologist and retired Professor from the Department of Psychiatry at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. The focus of her research has been on how stress and traumatic life events (e.g., sexual and physical abuse) affect long-term physical and mental health. Specifically, she has examined the effects of stress and trauma on patients with gastrointestinal disorders, pelvic pain and those with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). Her research has shown that trauma and stress are associated with many diverse and severe health effects years after these events. Stress has been related to faster progression to AIDS and increased risk for mortality among the HIV infected. Patients being seen for chronic pelvic pain and gastrointestinal disorders have worse health status (more health visits, poorer function, more pain) if they have a history of trauma. Dr. Leserman’s research has been the inspiration behind her becoming a member of the board of her local agency to prevent domestic violence. Dr. Leserman has authored and co-authored over 100 papers on topics concerning psychosomatic and behavioral medicine.
You will not want to miss this one-hour discussion on her research behind the role of physical and sexual abuse and trauma within the diagnoses of chronic pelvic pain disorders. This will be a sneak preview of her larger lecture at the International Pelvic Pain Society conference in October (www.pelvicpain.org).

Central Coast grandmother Jane Pooley hardly fits the stereotype of a UFO believer. But the 51-year-old says she saw one last week.
She described watching a craft with rotating lights moving silently above Brisbane Water, near where she lives - an area recognised as one of Australia's UFO hotspots.
"I'm a conservative, Catholic, middle-aged, registered nurse and I've worked in an emergency department, so I've seen some pretty weird things. Nothing seems to surprise me much any more," she said.
"I believe in the Christian faith but I don't think it negates it (the possibility of ET life)."It is the quest for indisputable evidence which drives Dr Ragbir Bhathal, director of the Australian Optical SETI (search for extraterrestrial intelligence) project. Night after night for the past 10 years, the University of Western Sydney engineering lecturer has peered through a powerful telescope on the university's campus, looking for flashes of light from alien civilisations.
Other SETI projects search for radio transmissions but Dr Bhathal believes such technology could be obsolete for extraterrestrial intelligence.
"We think if the ET are so much more advanced than us, they wouldn't be sending signals by radio waves but by using laser beams," he said, explaining that lasers carry more than a million times more information than a radio wave.A decade of searching has proved fruitless but Dr Bhathal said astronomical discoveries over the past 20 years provides a breakthrough could be close.
