This Podcast: Dealing with the challenges that come after placement in a structured facilty
Caregiving is one of the greatest challenges and opportunities most of us experience in a lifetime.
Each week Paula Falk moderates a support group of caregivers dealing with the challenges of Alzheimer's. She's helped to provide guidance and a constant reminder to each member they're not alone, that it's okay to feel frustrated, sad, angry, but to not lose sight of their own health and mental wellness.
This week our guest is Jane Johnson. Jane is a volunteer facilitator for the caregivers support group and works closely with Paula. She has a Masters Degree in social work and from her own personal experience with her husband's Alzheimer's understands the importance of caregivers developing a strong coping mechanism.
Many members of this support group have become good friends and provide a support network. Now, we want to share what we've learned in a series of short podcasts, each one about a tip to help you stay focused on your own health and well-being, as well as the loved one you're caring for.
Paula Falk is the Director of the Caregiver Resource Center (CRC) and Adult Day Service Program at The Living Room at Senior Friendship Centers’ Sarasota campus. The Caregiver Resource Center is a community collaboration bringing together agencies and businesses offering services and products to help caregivers through one of life’s more challenging times. For more information, call 941.556.3270, email email@example.com, or visit www. friendshipcenters.org.
I finally get to interview my Favorite Electrician
I started my Electrical Inside Wireman apprenticeship in 1976. I completed to Journey level in 1980. I have worked in all aspects of the electrical field, residential, commercial and industrial and at many levels; apprentice, journeyman, steward, foreman and general foreman. I have taught part time in the apprenticeship program since 1980 and obtained my California Teachers Credential in 1981. I have worked as a business agent and dispatcher for IBEW Local 11 under two different Business Managers. In 1996 I transitioned full time to the Electrical Training Institute as Senior Instructor and in 2006 became the Outreach Director. In 2009 I was appointed and then elected, and re-elected in 2012, by the membership as Vice President of IBEW Local 11. I served six months as the Interim President.
I am active and involved with my union; I have participated in community outreach even before I started my apprenticeship in 1976. Since 1980 I have been an active member on the Long Beach Private Industry Council, School to Career Organization, the Youth Opportunities Organization and other local groups. I was co-founder of Electric Women in 1984 and Blue Collar Women in 2006; active tradeswomen support groups. I currently sit on a number of community, education and faith based advisory committees and serve as a Board member for the Foothill WIB, the Pacific Gateway WIB, the South Bay WIB, the ACE Mentoring program, the United Jobs Community Coalition and the PV Jobs Foundation.

Today on The Boochcast we talk about dealing with change, funny TRG moments, TNA Bringing back the 6 sided ring, Daniel Bryan changing his Wrestling style, WWE's Budget Cuts, Possible breakup of the Funkadactyls, Rumors regarding the Money In The Bank PPV, and we talk to Erica Johnson, the wife of Dylan Ryan Johnson a man who is currently serving time in a Mexican Prison for a crime he didn't committ!
Dennis Johnson joins us to discuss his experiences during the 2014 Race Across America. Dennis turned in an incredible performance finishing 7th overall, top US solo finisher, first 60+ solo finisher, fastest crossing by an age 60+ racer, new recumbent record. This podcast is not going to be a discussion of the science/organization/etc of Johnson's race - in Dennis' words "...this race was a story about the struggle to win, the battles to defeat the bastard (the force trying to give me from finishing), the effects of sleep deprivation and injury that almost cost me the race in the last 30 hours, a 12-hour sprint to the finish, and the support of a team that became a family. All too often RAAM seems to become a story about an epic journey of self-discovery; this is a story about an epic race seen through the mind of the racer."
