Gather at the Table Revisited with Sharon Morgan and Thomas Norman Dewolf

    in History

Gather at the Table: The Healing Journey of a Daughter of Slavery and a Son of the Slave Trade --

-- is the chronicle of a shared journey toward racial reconciliation. Informed by genealogy, it deals with race, social justice and healing from the traumatic wounds of slavery. Over a three year period, the authors traveled through 27 states, visiting ancestral towns, courthouses, cemeteries, plantations, antebellum mansions, and historic sites.

Bernice Alexander Bennett welcomes Sharon Leslie Morgan and Thomas Norman Dewolf to share this compelling journey with us.

Sharon Morgan is a marketing communications consultant and a nationally recognized pioneer in multicultural marketing. An avid genealogist, she is the webmaster for OurBlackAncestry.com and is a founder of the Black Public Relations Society.

Thomas Norman DeWolf, author of Inheriting the Trade, is featured in the Emmy-nominated documentary film Traces of the Trade, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and on the acclaimed PBS series POV. DeWolf speaks regularly about healing from the legacy of slavery and racism at conferences and colleges throughout the United States.

  • Blacks & The Cops

    in Politics

    America is a funny land.

Not funny as in "ha ha," but funny as in strange.

So strange that even though cops have historically been at odds with Blacks, people try to pretend that there is something else going on in a so-called justice system that sometimes seems like it persecutes just us.

But anyone who has lived in a poor neighborhood with their eyes and mind open realizes that the "Thin Blue Line," is typically erected between the "haves" and the "have nots," frequently doling out abuse to the "have nots."

And, the "have nots" don’t always get their day in court when there is abuse, which is why periodically, the people speak in the loudest voice possible—riots.

Ferguson spoke in that loud voice and now, Baltimore is speaking as well.

Perhaps no city has the reputation for rioting that Los Angeles has earned.

This April 29, marked the 23rd anniversary of the notorious LA Riots.

And it is business as usual, from Rodney King to Micheal Brown and from Eric Garner to Freddy Gray, countless Black men and women in between, as well as throughout American history.

    Interview with James House

    in Music

Songwriter and Recording Artist JAMES HOUSE co-wrote Grammy Nominated Country Song of the Year “Ain’t That Lonely Yet” (recorded by Dwight Yoakam) and CMA Nominated Song of the Year “A Broken Wing” (recorded by Martina McBride) along with another smash hit "In A Week Or Two” (recorded by Diamond Rio).

Other artists to record his songs include Tina Turner, Olivia Newton-John, Rod Stewart, The Mavericks and Sara Evans - to name just several.

Born & raised in Sacramento, California, James pursued music in L.A. before making the move to Nashville in the late 1980s. Not long after the move, he was signed to MCA Records, where he began a string of chart hits like “Don’t Quit Me Now” and “Hard Times For An Honest Man.”

A switch to Epic Nashville produced the critically-acclaimed Days Gone By album and yielded the top 5 hit “This Is Me Missing You,” and top 20 singles “Real Good Way To Wind Up Lonesome” and “Little By Little.”

His latest album is entitled Songwriters Serenade. It features 10 songs co-written with James by some of the most successful songwriters in country music. One of the most talked about tracks has James singing the duet "Over Getting Over You" with newcomer Natalie Noone (daughter of famed founder/member of the Herman's Hermits, Peter Noone).

A look at the End Time with Perry Stone & Irvin Baxter Part 1

    in Christianity

We want to thank you for being with us for another show here at your place. We have just finished a great series on the Bible that we hope you take advantage of listening to and sharing if you missed it live.  It was not the normal presentation of facts just from the Bible.  We used historians, scientist, and other scholors to bring our topic all together for you.

Tonight we are going to take a look at endtime with Perry Stone and Irvin Baxter. We wanted to find something that brings you two points of view in a light manner.  We found a show from 2011 that we are bringing to you as it is even more real today with all that is happening in the world.  We all remember that many thought 2012 was when the world could end and there was a lot of interest by writers, and movie makers.  This is just part one of this show.  As always we will open the mics at the end of the show for questions and comments.
