Marone! It’s me and two handsome Italian men – meet Stevie B and Joe Basile, the co-creators of the internet phenomenon known as the Italian American Slang Word of the Day. The Italian language has its own natural charm and beauty, and also includes some of the most passionate and expressive words, and many of them have made their way into English. You don’t have to be Italian to appreciate what Stevie B and Joe have done, but if you grew up in an Italian household, or married into one like I did, you’ll love these short daily YouTube videos. Each provides a quick peek into the life of Stevie B and his extended family including parents, Down the Block Donnie, Fluffy, Medium Petey, and of course, Josephine. It a great cast of characters and we can easily relate to the family dynamic. Each video features an Italian American Slang Word of the Day which is used in context by Stevie B and then translated to American. Learning Italian has never been so easy! Here's what is remarkable about this: there are over 15,000 LIKES on Facebook, and each video gets thousands of views. It seems Stevie B and Joe have struck a nerve. They found a way to perpetuate the language they grew up with and share it with a generation of younger viewers who may not even be familiar with the words of an old-world traditional Italian household. These words are the common connection to our grandparents, aunts, uncles, and parents; and it’s worth the effort to keep them alive. Get ready for some fun! After the show, please check After Hours at Jersey Coastal Live for more info.

Don Eckerle of the German Genealogy Group (GGG) and John Martino of the Italian Genealogy Group (IGG) join Jane this morning to talk about the mammoth indexing projects their groups took on when they decided to tackle Long Island records and then New York City vital records and then NARA NYC records and then some more. Don and John will discuss what records they have done, what records they intend to do, and what the differences in their groups' databases are. They will also tell us how they manage their indexing projects with more than 2,000 volunteers. They'll also share interesting stories from their indexing and tell us about unusual records or people that they came across in the records.
In May 2014 Don, John and their GGG partner Bob Boeckle received the National Genealogical Society's Award of Merit in recognition of exceptional contributions to the field of genealogy.
John and Don are pictured with the other New York attendees at the NGS conference in Richmond, Virginia. They are all members and volunteers for the GGG and IGG indexing projects.
Mercedes AMG driver Lewis Hamilton just won the Italian Grand Prix at the home of Ferrari. The 2008 World Champion was in pole position but got off to a bad start due to car trouble. His teammate Nico Rosberg took the lead pushing Hamilton back, and into fourth position. Pressure started to take its toll on Rosberg and he made two mistakes, the second of which proved to be an opportunity for the faster Hamilton to move back into first position. Once Hamilton regained the lead, he kept it throughout the race. Hamilton's teammate Nico Rosberg came in second and Williams-Martini driver and former Ferrari driver Felipe Massa, crossed the finish line third. The disappointment of Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso's DNF did not prevent the fans from showing their love of the Ferrari F1 team. The Ferrari organization was out in full force along with the Ferrari family. The Mercedes Team is currently in the lead for the constructors’ title, and with six more races before the end of the season, it looks as though Mercedes will maintain that position. The Italian fans were gracious, excited, and seemed to emjoy the event. The after race entertainment was, the still popular musical group, Duran Duran.
