The Deceitful and Deadly Fruits of Extremism
What is it that triggers genocide done in the name of “patriotism” or religion?
We’re honored to have Cherie McGinn, an extraordinary educator who has specialized in AP European History and Comparative Religions, join us during the first hour of the show. Cherie will enlighten us about historic tragedies, with a focus on the Armenian genocide that took the lives of 1.5 million Armenians, mostly Christian.
We will also identify the steps that allow people -- like religious practioners, homosexuals, intellectuals and other groups -- to become victims of genocide.
In the second hour, we'll address the religious right's argument that marriage equality will lead to legalized plural marriages.
Philosopher Troy Bowles grew up in a fundamentalist Mormon polygamous cult and because of his experience and education, is in a unique position to show why the gay marriage/polygamy argument is nonsense. Joining us with a cult perspective is Rob Robinson.

The Sufis and Islamic Mysticism
On Thursday April 4th, 2013 the Hermetic Hour, with host Poke Runyon, will present a discussion on the Sufis and Islamic mysticism. This is a subject that is impossible to fathom and difficult to summarize. The reason it is so difficult to understand lies in Sufism's passion for non-literal, allegorical and paradoxical teaching deriving in part from its fear of being persecuted by orthodox Islam for heresy; a very real fear which endangers Sufi circles all over the world at the present time. We will briefly outline the history of Sufism and highlight the work some of its legendary teachers with their profound, and sometimes humorous parables. We will recall the famous Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam, comparing the Western version to what Khayyam actually wrote. Gurdjieff's debt to Sufism will be noted. We will outline the so-called "Arabic Kabbalah" sometimes called "Abjad", and discuss the controversial book "The Other Islam" on present day Sufism by Stephen Schwartz. So, if you want to find out what you don't know about the Sufis tune in and be mystified.

How Should a Christian Respond to Islamic TERRORISM?
In light of the Boston Marathon Bombing on April 15th how should a Christian respond to terrorism, especially when it's carried out in our own country by those who follow Islam, the religion of “peace”?
Terrorism in Islam ALWAYS has layers that both speak a message to its victims and its supporters. CHRISTIANS BEWARE!
As Christians, Jesus tells us to “turn the other cheek”. Does this mean we fail to protect ourselves from acts of violence? If we are supposed to “love our enemy” and “do good to those who hate us” how do we respond to Islamic terrorism? Islam is a religion of “the sword” and Christianity is a religion of “the Cross”. In the end Islam has made a declaration: they will be the only religion left standing. Are there “winners and losers”? Is the message of the Cross in Christianity more offensive than the message of the Sword in Islam? Can’t we all get along?! Why do Muslims hate the West? Should the West “shut-up” assimilate, subjugate and alleviate our “offensive message” as an act of “good will” and “peace”?
Islamic justice demands the guilty be punished. Christianity demands the guilty be punished. Where’s the difference? We are dealing with two polarizing ideologies. In today’s program we will take a look at the differences. And we will also address how some Christian-based messages are offensive to the cross of Christ.
