INDIE REVIEW RADIO / TIMOTHY BLOOM / INDIE ARTIST

    in Entertainment

Fresh off the release of the deluxe version of his new self-titled album, two-time GRAMMY® award-winner Timothy Bloom is excited about the future. Recently named a VH-1 Soul “You Oughta Know Artist,” Timothy Bloom is on the move. Forged from a childhood of diverse experiences, powered by a kaleidoscope of musical influences, Timothy’s music defies category and refuses to be put in a box. But my music is ultimately a fusion of many influences. I could never see myself doing one type of music. When anyone asks me who I’d like to work or tour with, I answer everybody.”He started early. Timothy was introduced to various cultures and lifestyles as his father’s service as an army chaplain took the family to such varied locales as Germany, Alaska and Oklahoma. His parents, both pastors, only allowed their five children to listen to gospel music. One day Timothy “ran away”, meaning he spirited away the keys, and snuck out to the car to turn on the radio. The first song that came on was Bob Dylan’s “Lay, Lady, Lay.” Seven year-old Timothy was amazed, and inspired. Timothy’s refreshing voice and sound reflect the multiple influences of his musical heroes and his varied upbringing. He attributes his unique blend to the styles he heard growing up. His favorite singers were the likes of Stevie Wonder, Donny Hathaway, Johnny Mathis, Frank Sinatra, Jeff Buckley because “those type of cats had tone and texture.” Timothy’s tone and texture caught the eye of skilled musicians early on. He began his career as a songwriter and producer writing for the incomparable Smokey Robinson (“My World”, “Fallin in Love”). Timothy then moved on to writing and producing GRAMMY® award-winning songs for both Ne-Yo (“Say it” on Because of You) and Chris Brown (“All Back” on F.A.M.E).

INDIE REVIEW RADIO/ MAX HASSELL / INDIE ARTIST

    in Entertainment

Respected entertainment journalist and blogger Maxx Hassell has come a long way since he was the ferocious teen who turned the Chicago industry business model upside down.  Willing to take advantage of most every opportunity that came his way, the artist turned industry every man got away from the music that made him a Chicago legend as Em Dot.  But like all cycles, Maxx Hassell has come full circle and is preparing his new EP Suite, The Wood Grain Diaries for an SS14 release. The Wood Grain Diaries was birthed in content by the state of today’s social media.  An R&B re-working of Nas classic “One Mic” that Maxx titled “One Night” was created solely to engage his online family for Throwback Thursday.  But the response has been overwhelming.  UK publication Niji Magazine posted the SoundCloud link to the song along with an accompanying article and that was met with over 200 Facebook “likes” and “shares”, moving the “Introduction” feature past the traffic of all of the sites front page stories.  This is attributed to Maxx’s small yet loyal fan base who have enjoyed his writing and celebrity interviews, but have been eager for him to find his way back to the studio.  Though Maxx had been making a small buzz as the new kid in Atlanta, performing his last single “Take A Lil Back” with his dancers Serita and Pytron, he wanted this new song to fit within a proper context and before long, the concept for The Wood Grain Diaries came to fruition. The Wood Grain Diaries will be available to the public by late May/early June; just in time to be the soundtrack for the summer.  If all goes well, The Wood Grain Diaries will re-establish Maxx Hassell’s presence on the music scene, and showcase a more mature and still willing artist ready to win.

INDIE REVIEW RADIO/ JOHNNY POPCORN / INDIE ARTIST

    in Entertainment

In 2001, Johnny Popcorn was at its early stages, and for the members it was a place to be creative. Considered as a project outside of the regular music careers, Johnny Popcorn would be the outlet when things got too stressful. Fittingly enough, recording Johnny Popcorn jams seemed to hit the spot. Fast forward to 2011 when Johnny Popcorn offered a unique musical formula—a concoction of highly fueled croons layered with its own views on topics ranging from teenage growing pains, self-gratification, weed, humdrum suburbia, and family values. Initially consisting of two members, Hezekiah and Tone Whitfield, the duo's inspiration and experience is the masterpiece that cements Johnny Popcorn. Vocalist and songwriter, Hezekiah, is no stranger to the music industry with 3 full-length solo albums as a hip-hop artist. Feeling like he was neglecting his Southern Funk/Rock upbringing passed down from his parents from Kentucky and North Carolina, he felt inspired for something new and exciting to develop—ultimately settling in on a new found passion. Bass guitarist and all-around producer, Tone Whitfield a.k.a. Grumpy Smurf, has produced numerous songs for Bilal, Meshell Ndegeocello, Zap Mama, and others. Contrast to Hezekiah’s hip-hop background, Grumpy Smurf has always been a rock purist with an open mind. Today, JOHNNY POPCORN is a crow on a mission. An alter ego that was inspired by Hez and Tone, who would jokingly put down fake names on open mic lists. When the host called out JOHNNY POPCORN, the crowd would chuckle in amusement. “I think we have a name for a band,” says Tone Whitfield. If it’s riff-heavy, rolls off the tongue and is more filling, then it’s Johnny Popcorn.

INDIE REVIEW RADIO/ PEPPABOY TRILL McCoy /INDIE ARTIST

    in Entertainment

Peppa boy is one of the most sought after indie artists in the South.  As a talented producer, writer and musician, his music is designed for the masses and is received by all.  His business sense finds him at the helm of his entertainment company, Colacoast Entertainment. Colacoast Entertainment is a lifestyle brand that creates music, film, television, and fashion and exposes the unique value of the Gulf Coast region to the world. Spanning four states within three hours (FL, AL, MS, LA), the Gulf Coast is a gumbo of flavor, also including Texas and Mexico further west. Focusing our music on corporate branding, Colacoast Entertainment's high brand value is attractive to companies seeking to boost their marketing campaigns. In addition to becoming a seasoned lyricist, Peppa also studied sports management with a concentration in golf at the University of Florida. He later earned a degree in petroleum technology from Baton Rouge Community College. While he did not graduate from UF, his time at UF was crucial in the development of becoming the artist he is today. While “pledging” for his fraternity, Kappa Alpha Psi, he would frequently be called upon to freestyle for the Big Brothers. He would go for hours at a time, entertaining them with street-oriented, pimpish, playamade flows. His sporty, game-spittin’ style, seasoned with his own original flavor and slang, earned him the name Peppaboy. Peppa also developed his stage presence and showmanship while attending UF through his performances in step show competitions and exhibitions. As “Kanemaster” of his chapter, he was responsible for choreographing all of their step shows and fast-became known for mesmerizing crowds of thousands with his kane-twirling ability.
