Interview: Kathleen Quinn, Pilots 'n' Paws
Pilots N Paws. Doesn't that just have an awesome ring to it?
It gets even better. Pilots N Paws is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that connects volunteer pilots with shelter animals needing transport to forever homes across the country. While Pilots N Paws doesn't organize or arrange these transports, it does provide a common forum online for those involved to schedule and arrange flights, overnight foster care or shelter, and other related activites. The organization is officially based in Landrum, South Carolina, but has volunteers nationwide.
ABOUT KATHLEEN QUINN Kathleen Quinn is executive director for Pilots N Paws. She has been volunteering with the organization since its launch in February 2008. In her new staff role, she will design, develop and implement strategic plans to grow Pilots N Paws, which includes a focus on fundraising and social media.
A 2008 graduate of Miami University, Kathleen earned degrees in business, entrepreneurship, and American studies. She graduated from Georgetown University with a master's degree in journalism. While in D.C., Kathleen also served as a congressional intern.
As a child, Kathleen had aspirations of one day becoming a veterinarian. "Although we lived in the suburbs, growing up, our house resembled a mini petting zoo. Amongst the critters were gerbils, dogs, a cat, box turtles, a salamander, a hermit crab, even chicks we hatched from an incubator. Across the street from was the Metropark animal nature center, so I was always rescuing wounded wildlife and takem them across the street to be rehabilitated."

Henry Timms- #Giving Tuesday
It is never too early to plan your giving year. We have a day for giving thanks. We have two for getting deals. Now we have #GivingTuesday™, the giving season’s opening day. On Tuesday December 3, 2013 charities, families, businesses and individuals are coming together to transform the way people think about, talk about and participate in the giving season. The idea for the campaign sprung from Henry Timms, deputy executive director of the Jewish community center 92nd Street Y, and Kathy Calvin, CEO of the United Nations Foundation. New York’s 92nd Street Y has been the catalyst and incubator for #GivingTuesday, bringing the expertise of 139 years of community-management to the project, and providing #GivingTuesday a home. Henry Timms has also been instrumental in producing the annual Social Good Summit, in partnership with Mashable and the UN Foundation, which has opened up the UN Week conversation to over 120,000 across the world. Earlier in his career, Henry oversaw corporate strategy for Arts & Business, one of HRH The Prince of Wales’ charities, and helped to launch the Prince’s Foundation for Children and the Arts.
