Welcome to IFAGlobalsite.com Radio.
Babalawo Ifategunse Osadele teaches topics: What Is IFA? Who Are Babalawo/Iyanifia? The Roles of a Babawo/Iyanifa/Apetebi. What is Odu? What are the Customs and Traditions Practiced within the Ancient West African Traditional, Oracle System of IFA?
It is said that "IFA WILL MEND OUR BROKEN WORLD" but in looking at the state of affairs in the Ifa-Orisa-Egun Worldwide FAMILY, and the closed-mindedness other religious families have towards us, it is of great urgency that we assit IFA in the mending of our broken world. In the Ifa Odu of the Year, (JUNE 2014-JUNE 2015), "ODI OGBE" WARNS all DEVOTEES AND PRACTIONERS that there would be many who come to destroy the image of the AWO when Solagbade Poopola wrote; "grand conspiracies and intrigues against all Awo the world over. Adherants of other faiths are making all efforts in their power to surpress and overwhelme all Awo in order to ensure that they do not amount to anything in the scheme of things". IFA NEVER LIES and because of that, Ifa cautions all AWOS (adepts) to not misbehave, especially towards women or else...Instead, seek for amicable resolutions to differences and not use your spiritual powers to attack other AWOs or for the purpose of control as many men who feel they must have control over a woman or be higher than a woman in rank and status are doing now.
HOW DO WE GO ABOUT GETTING OTHER RELIGIOUS GROUPS OFF OUR BACKS? WHAT ARE SOME POSITIVE WAYS IN WHICH WE CAN PROMOTE IFA TO NON-IFA/ORISA/EGUN PEOPLE WITHIN OUR COMMUNITIES? WHAT POSITIVE STEPS DO YOU THINK WE WOULD HAVE TO TAKE AS INDIVIDUALS IN ORDER TO HELP MEND OUR BROKEN WORLD? WHAT CHANGES HAVE YOU AND/OR YOUR IFA/ORISA COMMUNITY MADE TO HELP MEND OUR BROKEN WORLD?
This episode of TRUE TALKS WITH OFAE OFAE centers on CHANGE WITHIN THE RANKS OF IFA/ORISA EGUN LIFE. Some of the issues that reflect a need for change is the exclusion of women in key positions such as being on the IFA COUNCIL (an organization that speaks for the rights of all Ifa/Orisa devotees and practioners worldwide). Some of the questions that will be explored are as follow:
What is the Ifa Council? Do women hold executive roles on the Ifa Council? Do women have a say on the Ifa Council? What other roles do women have in Ifa/Orisa life that gives them power of authority? What difference will it make if women are placed in head positions on the Ifa Council?
Our special guests who will be speaking on this topic are:
Iya Ayaba OrisaBi Awodele-Ifaseye (Awo-Iyanifa, Teacher, CEO at Queenchiku Ngozi Art Gallery, Inc.
Iya Abiye Awo Agbaye, Ifa/Orisa priest, Oloye(Chief Priest) at Ile Iwosan Orunmila Mimo Temple
You are invited to call in to ask questions to our guest and/or share your opinion on the subject at hand.
"Ifa priestesses are called Iyanifa. Awo is often used as a gender-neutral reference to individual Iyanifa or Babalawo, as well as to the group as a whole. An Awo is a spiritual counsellor to clients and those whom he or she may have assisted in receiving tutelary Orisa shrines and/or initiation into the spiritual tradition of the Orisa. There have been Iyanifa, women Ifa priests, since time immemorial in some areas of the world, such as Ibadan, Nigeria", yet we find that many women of today are still confused about their roles.
For many years, there have been and still is a huge controversy about the roles of women in Ifa and Orisa life. Women have come from a place of misconception about their roles according to the DOs and DON'Ts set fort by men in Ifa and Orisa life. Many women have been trying to organize women in order to teach them or to bring up their understanding of their responsibilities in Ifa/Orisa life and what CHANGES they can must make within the RANKS OF IFA/ORISA LIFE. In 2003 a group of Iyanifas organized and held an Iyanifa Worldwide Congress in efforts to bring the women in Ifa/Orisa life to an understanding of herself. Some of the questions surrounding these roles stem around how women are limited or not limited based on their status as Olorisa, Awo, Iyanifa.
WHAT IS THE ODU (SACRED IFA SCRIPT) THAT SAYS WOMEN SHOULD NOT INITIATE OTHER WOMEN INTO IFA? SHOULD WOMEN BE ABLE TO INITIATE MEN INTO IFA, YES OR NO AND WHY OR WHY NOT? KEEP IN MIND THAT WE ARE TALKING ABOUT IYANIFAS WHO ARE TRAINED. YOUR KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND OPINIONS ARE APPRECIATE.
