Twelve Pillars Of Faith- The Hungry Heart

    in The Bible

Spiritual hunger is the number one ingredient for revival and the only way to receive anything from God. Spiritual appetite is something that needs to be developed, cultivated, and protected. It determines how hungry you are for the things of God. Are you hungry for God with a passion? What must you do to develop a hungry heart? Join me tonight as I answer these questions and more.

January 2008 my Pastor taught an entire year of teachings surrounding different topics from the Pillars of the Christian faith. This month I am beginning a series on the Spiritual Heart. Tonight I will speak on The Hungry Heart.

SwCA Episode 128: "Steve Jobs: Legacy? Lesson? Stay Hungry/ Stay Foolish?"

    in Business

    SITE: http://www.courtneyanderson.com/swca-episode-128-joyful-art-of-business-series-steve-jobs-legacy-lesson-stay-hungry-stay-foolish.html

SHOW NOTES: This episode is part of our JOYFUL ART OF BUSINESS™ series! Our episode topic is, “Steve Jobs: Legacy? Lesson? Stay Hungry/ Stay Foolish?”

Few business leaders are widely known. Even fewer receive an outpouring of emotion for their work. Fewer still are publicly mourned. Steve Jobs is one of those who left a legacy. What lessons may we learn from his journey through life? http://www.nytimes.com/2011/10/22/books/steve-jobs-by-walter-isaacson-review.html?pagewanted=all&_r=0

He said, “Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose. You are already naked. There is no reason not to follow your heart. […] Death is very likely the single best invention of Life. It is Life's change agent. It clears out the old to make way for the new. Right now the new is you, but someday not too long from now, you will gradually become the old and be cleared away. Sorry to be so dramatic, but it is quite true. Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of others' opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary. […] Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish” (http://news.stanford.edu/news/2005/june15/jobs-061505.html)

    Feeding the Hungry Ghost

    in Spirituality

Blending the sweetness of story with savory culinary adventures, Ellen Kanner's Feeding the Hungry Ghost combines elements of humor, spirituality, cultural food traditions, current science about health and diet, and seasonal recipes in a wildly delicious read. As the Meatless Monday blogger for Huffington Post and a syndicated columnist (The Edgy Veggie), Ellen shares the importance of food that nourishes both heart and soul while supporting a more sustainable approach to raising the food that graces our tables.
The "hungry ghost" of the title is a Tao concept, evoking restless souls still hungry, still seeking, even beyond the grave. Food alone does not satisfy this hungry spirit within each of us, illustrated by the rise in obesity and sense of disconnection from the very food we gobble. Spirituality alone doesn't fulfill all our human needs, either, which is why we need to combine these hungers and learn to eat mindfully, in harmony with our natural seasons and in relationship with our family and wider communities, no matter what form they take. Ellen's stories, centered around the seasons and the moods they evoke, nudge us to think and feel more deeply about how we live now. Ellen knows all the spiritual cheerleading in the world can't get the average person to change their habits, so she offers bait: specifically, delicious vegan recipes from her personal arsenal, many of them re-workings of cultural favorites from around the world.
Feeding the Hungry Ghost addresses questions explored by food and health writers: why are French women thin though they eat cheese, croissants, and drink wine; or how sustainable agriculture and eating locally sourced food can increase your well-being and the well-being of the planet. She describes why simple choices can begin to change habits and alter behavior, how these small steps can lead to a healthier, happier person and healthier, more peaceful planet.
