Juvenile Justice is a Human Rights Issue
The United States joins many countries as part of the United Nations and is bound by international conventions that dictate how individuals, including children should be treated. Even though the United States has made some progress in the area of human rights and its administration of a juvenile justice system (e.g. banning the death penalty for youth), there are a lot of improvement to be made. Some key areas are the legal representation of juveniles, the processing of children as adults, the treatment of juveniles in detention and correctional facilities, and the over-representation of youth of color. Guests will discuss juvenile justice as a human rights issue and highlight differences and existing tensions between the United States treatment of youth as compared to other countries. Guests will also share considerations for those representing youth and working in the juvenile justice system to frame their approach and advocacy.
Guests:
Elizabeth "Betsy" Clarke, President, Juvenile Justice Initiative
Deborah LaBelle, Director, Juvenile Life Without Parole Initiative of Michigan

Even if , many nations have at least nominally recognized basic human rights for all citizens,

Reading - Human Rights Watch - Those Who Take Us Away- Pt4
We will continue on from pg 62.I will be reading the full 89 page report just release and made public by the Human Right Watch on " Those That Take Us Away" where there are allegations that the RCMP ( Royal Canadian Mountain Police) discriminate and abuse/sexual abuse First Nations Women. Mainstream media news reports are advising that the RCMP head honchos ( the old boys club mentality) are dismissing the report. In the meantime the RCMP is going to be investigated by "Commission for Public Complaints Against the RCMP"This commission is is an independent agency, created by Parliament, to ensure that complaints made by the public about the conduct of RCMP members are examined fairly and impartially. The CPC accepts and attempts to resolve complaints lodged by the public about the conduct of RCMP members. More specifically, it conducts reviews when complainants are not satisfied with the RCMP's handling of their complaints; conducts investigations; holds hearings; reports findings; and makes recommendations for changes in national policing policy and practice. If it takes more then one show to completed the reading so be it. It should be noted that Meghan Rhoades does not feel this report belongs to anyone including the HRW other then the Indigenous women who spoke with them.
