My mom, Hattie Neal, is 92 now. She and I discussed events from her youth in the 1920's and 30's all the way up to the civil rights movement in the 1960s. We talked about what it was like to grow up in the rural South with her brothers, who went to CC Camp and later migrated North to Detroit. We discussed Tent City in Fayette County, Tennessee, which was a settlement former Black sharecroppers who were evicted by angry white landowners when they registered to vote. At the end of this tape, my mother shares interesting news about a KKK march through our neighborhood that you probably never heard about or imagined.
It was delightful to spend time this evening conversing with Mama instead of making reports about recent brutality and deaths under the color of law that I normally discuss. Alexyss K. Tylor did not broadcast at Human Rights Demand tonight as scheduled, but Mama and I had a grand time. You are invited to play the tape and join us.
Power concedes nothing without a demand; it never has, and it never will. ~F. Douglass
Historical novels provide us with information, drama, interesting settings and fascinating characters. Not to mention, that we actually can learn something of actual events. In this podcast, I examine and play samples from two of the historical novels which I have recorded. From the days of the founding of our country, we’ll ask the question, “Would you sign?” from theDeclaration of Independence Series. From the troubled Civil War era, we’ll watch the surprising actions of a sutler in Murray Pura’s series, Let Freedom Ring.

Dr. Gary Penn deconstructs how people understand world events based on their psychology. The world is very complex and leaders, politicians, and the media all have opnions as to what's wrong, what's right and how to make necessary changes. The events are neutral. We are the ones that give meaning to these events and the our psychology determines what meaning we give. Dr. Penn will help you to understand how you think and how to become more critical and free thinker.
