Inside the Southern Roots Kitchen with Kimberlee Stevenson
Join us in the Southern Roots Kitchen today with food blogger Kimberlee Stevenson.
Kimberlee S Stevenson is the owner of Southern Roots Kitchen; born and raised in Springfield, Massachusetts where her love for being in the kitchen began at an early age. While watching her mother, aunts, uncles, grandparents and great-grandmother cook in the kitchen Kimberlee began to learn her way around the kitchen.
Attending the Springfield Girls Club Family Center for their after school program gave her the chance to learn even more about cooking and baking. As a member of the Busy Bees Cooking Club under the direction of the head cook Mary ‘Mama Morgan’ Kimberlee learned different kitchen essentials and baked her first batch of Peanut Butter cookies. Every chance she got Kimberlee spent time in the kitchen anxious to learn all that she could.
As years passed by Kimberlee continued to keep cooking close to her heart, baking cakes, pies and cookies for close family and friends. Stepping out on faith and with the support from family and friends, Kimberlee decided to turn her passion and love for cooking into her business, Southern Roots Kitchen.

The Brewers...A Black Family Searches for its Roots
The Brewers..."A Black Family Searches for Its Roots" with Beatryce Nivens
Learn why would whites in a small Southern town put a black woman's obituary in the family scrapbook? Why would one of the cousin's treasure it so long? Who is Emiline Watts? What is the connection with the Watts family?
Beatryce Nivens author, family historian, motivational speaker, nationally recognized business/ career expert and executive coach will discuss her newest book - Children Go Where I Send Thee. Her other books include: the highly acclaimed Success Strategies for African Americans (Plume); the pioneering The Black Woman’s Career Guide (Doubleday); Careers for Women Without College Degrees (McGraw-Hill) and more.
Beatryce Nivens (A View From The Top: The Inspiring Success Stories of 15 Black CEOs, Business Leaders and Entrepreneurs) and actress Kym Whitley (“Raising Whitley,” a Tyler Perry production on the OWN Network) were recently pleasantly surprised when they learned about the untold history that was hidden in plain sight. In a surprising way, their ‘roots’ unraveled to bring into focus the multiracial heritage of their historically bound families – the Brewers (African Americans) and the Watts (white) families. Today, the families now unite to honor a woman ‘Emiline’ who represented a family bond that began during slavery and now survives in the lives of descendants–black and white.

The Catholic Church and Peonage
The number of girls missing is staggering. The National Congress of Mothers appeared in Washington on April 27th to "file a plea" for the 65,000 missing girls who had not been found. What is totally mind boggling is that according to the article, a "great majority of these girls were captured by Catholic priests and sentenced to slavery in the Houses of the Good Shepherd."
Do you think that this could still be happening today? Please join host Antoinette Harrell for this rebroadcast talk show.
