This webinar reviews recent literature and Ambry data that change how we understand and define hereditary breast and ovarian cancer. In addition, the Mauli Ola Foundation announces its 2nd annual "Battle for the Breasts" awareness event. This online surfing competition allows your clinic to participate for an opportunity to win up to $50,000 worth of hereditary breast cancer genetic testing, donated by Ambry Genetics. While an association has been found between SV40 and certain rare types of cancer, it is important to emphasize that it has not been determined that SV40 causes these cancers. SV40 was linked with mesothelioma when tumors developed in hamsters injected with SV40 into the lungs, heart and abdomen (Cicala et al., 1993). Mesotheliomas are rare cancerous tumors located in the lungs (pleura) and peritonium (abdomen) and are associated with asbestos exposure. SV40 has been found in 47% to 83% of human mesothelioma tumors (Carbone, 1999).
Scripture: Proverbs 3:5-8 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths. Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and depart from evil. It will be health to your flesh, and strength to your bones.” KJV
The advances found for multiple myeloma over the past two decades have been extroardinary. Much has been learned, and much has been accomplished with new treatment developments and arguably more discoveries than other cancers in the same time period. The past is impressive for this complex cancer, but there is more work to do. Dr. Ken Anderson helped lead the way for the discovery of new developments over a prestigious career of 40 years. He shares with us a brief look back and what he sees for the road ahead towards a cure.
Dr. Anderson is the Kraft Family Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School as well as Director of the Lebow Institute for Myeloma Therapeutics and Jerome Lipper Multiple Myeloma Center at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. He is a Doris Duke Distinguished Clinical Research Scientist and American Cancer Society Clinical Research Professor. After graduating from Johns Hopkins Medical School, he trained in internal medicine at John’s Hopkins Hospital, and then completed hematology, medical oncology, and tumor immunology training at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Over the last three decades, he has focused his laboratory and clinical research studies on multiple myeloma. He has developed laboratory and animal models of the tumor in it is microenvironment which have allowed for both identification of novel targets and validation of novel targeted therapies, and has then rapidly translated these studies to clinical trials culminating in FDA approval of novel targeted therapies. His paradigm for identifying and validating targets in the tumor cell and its milieu has transformed myeloma therapy and markedly improved patient outcome.

According to Merriam-Webster, eugenics is defined as a science that deals with the improvement (as by control of human mating) of hereditary qualities of a race or breed. Mark Crutcher produced a documentary called MAAFA21, which focuses on eugenics in the African-American community. The title comes from the Swahili term "Maafa", which means "tragedy" or "disaster", and is used to describe the centuries of oppression of African people, globally, during slavery, apartheid and colonial rule. "21" refers to the maafa of the 21st century. With the terminal disease rates within the African-American community, it almost seems to be expected that inevitably their fate should be tied in to a disease that is caused by diet or environment. Maafa21 seeks to prove that with the eugenics movement, African-Americans are being targeted even at an earlier point in life, straight from the womb. In honor of the annual March For Life, here is an encore presentation which explores this important documentary. Tune in to this segment of The Organic View Radio Show, as host, June Stoyer talks to Mark Crutcher to discuss Maafi21. Stay tuned!

Dogs are Cancer Scientists with Paws
Learn why clinical trials for dogs and people are the most promising path to treating and ultimately curing cancers, with Colorado State University's Dr. Christine Hardy, DVM.
Join us as we learn why clinical trials for dogs and people are the most promising path to treating and ultimately curing cancers, when we talk with Colorado State University's Dr. Christine Hardy, DVM.
In her role as senior director of Professional Veterinary Medicine Student Services and former director of Operations for CSU's Flint Animal Cancer Center, Dr. Hardy is getting the word out about "One Cure," an initiative to share the importance of participating in clinical trials when animals and humans are diagnosed with cancer.
Also joining us is Dr. Kristen Weishaar, a board-certified oncologist and the Flint Animal Cancer Center's Director of Clinical Trials. Dr. Weishaar earned her DVM from Tufts University in Massachusetts and became board-certified at Colorado State in 2014. Dr. Weishaar is excited to play a role in finding new treatments for animals and people with cancer through clinical research.
We will Learn:
- What exactly are clinical trials?
- Why are clinical trials so important for treating and even curing cancer.
- How do people and dogs benefit from participating?
- What are the pitfalls of taking part?
- And so much more!
Learn more about the One Cure Initiative at CSU.
Borrowing from one cancer treatment to treat another is common, but the insights learned from a cancer treatment class of drugs could be applied to neurological disorders like ALS. Dr. Alfred Goldberg, PhD of Harvard Medical School has deep expertise in proteasome inhibitors. These drugs are commonly used in blood cancers, but he has found a potential use for them in neurological disorders including ALS.
