WHERE HAS ALL THE HEALTH CARE GONE?

    in Current Events

WHERE HAS ALL THE HEALTH CARE GONE?

Been to the doctor lately? Or was it a physician’s assistant? What about all those annual tests we were told we needed? Had any of those lately?  Been told you’re too old for a PAP test? What is going on in the world of doctors and patients and who makes all these decisions?  And how do these decisions affect women who have been traumatized or abused?

So many changes, so many questions.  What can we expect in the new world of affordable care?

If anyone can help us figure it out, it’s Lyle Larson, PhD, PA-C, Chief Physician Assistant, University of Washington Medical Center, and Teaching Associate, Division of Cardiology, Electrophysiology Section.  Lyle teaches, practices, and has worked with and edited several scholarly publications. He writes and lectures in the medical field, working with not only physicians and physicians’ assistants, but also with research and funding.

With so much of the dialog about health care centering on cost and accessibility, it’s sometimes hard to realize that the day to day visiting of the doctor’s office or the emergency room may be altered by all the changes. Let’s learn more about what we are facing in our medicine-doctor-patient futures.

Lyle is joining us this Saturday to talk about health concerns and questions we face as we go down a new road to treatment and relationships in the era of health care reform.

Join us Saturday at 11 am Pacific Time to talk about what is new, what we need to know and what we should expect as we go forward to health care’s next face.

How to Get the Health Care you Deserve - with Lawrence Lazarus, MD

    in Health

Getting the best medical care possible for yourself and those you love can be challenging, especially when you realize that medical bills are the number one cause of bankruptcy, and medical and hospital errors account for more yearly deaths than car accidents.

When his elderly aunt developed depression and Alzheimer's disease, Dr. Lawrence Lazarus saw firsthand how America's fragmented healthcare system could endanger his patients' lives. He recognized the importance of being assertive, proactive and of having a trusted healthcare advocate and a dedicated physician to coordinate and assure the best care possible.

In this interview Dr. Lazarus will share his lifetime of personal and professional experience with patients.  His book Getting the Healthcare You Deserve in America's Broken Healthcare System offers practical advice about the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare). The book also explains how to reduce healthcare costs and overcome psychological barriers to recognizing early signs of illness. We will also talk about how to find and keep the best physician.

Through working with patients, he has seen the importance of understanding how America's complicated and sometimes adversarial health system works and the need for patients and their families to take more control and responsibility for their healthcare.

Health Management & Health Care Logistics

    in Business

On this week's edition of HealthCare Consumerism Radio, hosts Ron Bachman and Doug Field are live in the studio for a discussion on trends in population health management and how changes toward a consumer-centric health care model are affecting all stakeholders in the system.

For the first segment on today's program, the hosts welcome Jack Curtis, founder and chief executive officer of Corporate Health Partners, to the show. A speaker at this June's FORUM & Expo, the chair of the Leadership Committee at HERO and an overall thought leader in health management, Jack discusses some of the latest trends in corporate wellness today. Jack and the hosts also cover the content of this June's FORUM & Expo general session, recent HERO research and how to engage the C-suite in corporate wellness efforts.

The second guest on this week's show is Robin Hooker, the director of healthcare marketing for UPS, a global leader in logistics. In this segment, Robin and the hosts discuss how the shift toward patient-centric care is affecting all participants in the health care system. Today, patients are choosing more direct-to-home deliveries; walk-in clinics, such as CVS Minute Clinic and MedPost Urgent Care, are on the rise; the middle class and aging populations in emerging markets are growing. These are impacting the health care supply chain immensely. With health care consumerism on the rise globally, logistics partners are required to innovate now more than ever to ensure a safe end-to-end shipping experience for biologics, pharmaceuticals, medical devices and more.

Health Care Payments, Life Insurance and Health Incentives

    in Business

On this week's edition of HealthCare Consumerism Radio, the hosts welcome two special guests to the program for a discussion on health care payments, health engagement, life insurance, health incentives and more.

The first guest on the program will be Vineet Gulati, chief executive officer of HealthExpense. Similar to the shift from pension plans to individual retirement accounts years ago, employers are switching from defined benefit to a defined contribution that their employees control. Therefore, the employee-consumer today has to make more health insurance and health care purchasing decisions. This shift has been rapid, and consumers need to learn very quickly how to use vehicles like HSAs, FSAs and HRAs to cope with this expense-shift. In this interview, Vineet and the hosts will discuss what problems this shift is causing across the health care ecosystem and the innovations that are emerging to deal with these changes.

For the second segment on the show, the hosts will talk with Tal Gilbert, senior vice president of marketing and innovation for The Vitality Group. Tal and the hosts will be discussing an innovative new solution that brings together life insurance and wellness incentives. John Hancock Insurance recently launched a new approach to life insurance in the U.S. that rewards people for healthy living. Developed through an exclusive, first-ever life insurance partnership with The Vitality Group, the new solution integrates life insurance with a comprehensive healthy living program.
