Graeme Kapono Urlich
Kapono means "The Harmonious One" and was given to me when I was ordained as an Alakai of Huna International. I was given the Maori name Kahurangi in another context and it translates into Hawaiian as Kahulani. The meanings are slightly different in each language with Kahurangi meaning "Gift From Heaven" and Kahulani meaning "Heavenly Caretaker". In old Hawaii it was traditional for a name to be given during training when a milestone had been reached and signified a graduation.

Dr. Hank Wesselman is a leading paleoanthropologist, spiritual teacher and shamanic practitioner who has authored seven books on shamanism. In this interview Miriam Knight and Dr. Hank discussed his book, The Bowl of Light, which offers a rare glimpse into the heart of the tradition of Hawaiian shamanism through the teachings of the great Kahuna elder, Hale Makua. Before his passing, this revered shaman and wisdom keeper, granted Dr. Wesselman permission to share sacred spiritual knowledge seldom imparted to outsiders. It covered subjects like the nature of the self, the nature of reality and what it means for spiritual seekers approaching 2012.

There is a lot of expectation placed on a shaman. Because they sit in the inbetween place, everyone expects that they will receive special favours from the Divine. A shaman is no better that any one else. The only difining thing is that he or she is able to communicate and exist between worlds. Once upon a time, the shaman had a group of people who looked after their basic needs. Today the shaman must navigate the world most times alone.
Remember the challenge presented to one in the past, "You think you are so special and can do all these miracles, why don't you get yourself down..." Modern shamans are challenged in the same way. These individuals have connection with spirit but they are also exist in limitation in bodies that requires feeding and clothing. Most shamans have an outside job as well as the job of being there for anyone who require their assistance.
Sonia shares from spirit, insights and information to hopefully support the modern shaman in his and her journey and job on the planet.
Sonia wrote a book The Question: Separation to Integration, A look at the human spiritual journey.

Kahuna Lani (website LEFT click only!) started as a haumana (student) under Kahuna Huna Nui Max Freedom Long, FHF about Huna in 1962. By 1968 he had initiated Lani as a Kahuna of his lineage in his front room in Vista, CA, and he had become an HRA (Huna Research Associate) and a member of the FHF (Fellow of the Huna Fellowship - The Huna Church).
As the years went by, he was initiated into the several Huna Priestcrafts or Lores by their Lorefounders or their genealogical descendents: he was trained in the Huna Lore of Clairesthesia by Kahuna Fred Kimball, DD. Max Freedom Long introduced me to miss Nora Weeks, who assisted me in my study of the Bach Flower Remedies. With Psychometric Analysis and the Tarot in the Huna manner, I was taught by Max himself.
