Celebrate Life: A Path to Happiness!

    in Relationships

Welcome to Happiness Index.  We have just celebrated the Winter Solstice, Hanukkah, Christmas and now we are celebrating the 2nd day of Kwanzaa, Kujichagulia.   We are 5 days from New Year’s Eve, which is also Kokomon’s birthday and 6 days from New Year’s Day. This is truly a time of celebrations.  Are we happy?  Maybe we can be happy if we observe the values that the Kwanzaa Celebrations reminds us of.  There are seven core values for the seven days of Kwanzaa.  Today as we celebrate let us remember "Kujichagulia”, it asks us to define the world in our own image and interest placing indigenous people and culture at the center of our worldview and social reality. There are seven values of Kwanzaa, beginning with yesterday, Umoja which means unity; Kujichagulia, self-determination; Ujimaa, working together; Ujamaa, supporting each other; Nia, purpose; Kuumba, creativity; and Imani, faith.  We can extend this holiday season to every day of the year with Kwanzaa.  We can celebrate through faith by waking up, walking, eating, knowing that the little things is life is what matters most.  It is all in the way we see life.  Celebrate, be happy!  Thank you for joining us in this very important conversation on celebration as a path to happiness.  Call (347) 539-5818 and share your wisdom on this topic.

    in Relationships

Why does happiness matter?  Sometimes I think that happiness does not matter, many people react to this question in surprisingly different ways.  Does happiness matter to you? We have to remember that trying to live a happy life is not about denying negative emotions or pretending that we are happy all the time.  Life happens, sometimes bad things happens to good people, but what is really important is what do we do about what happens.  We can always choose what we do.

Source of Happiness, featuring Kokomon Clottey

    in Relationships

During the past few weeks we began a conversation on good feelings and bad feelings.  It was very powerful and gave us much food for thought.  We realize that understanding how we feel and why we feel a certain way is very important.  It is very important for us to find ways to sort these feelings out.  A key to sorting our feelings is transparency. Today we ask a deeper question, What is the source of your happiness?

That is we must communicate what we are feeling and why and be able to say what we are feeling and to know that someone is listening to our feelings without judgments or conditions.  Always express your true feelings to the ones who really matter to you, because opportunities are lost in the blink of an eye but our regrets can last a lifetime. Author unknown.  You are listening to Happiness Index, on Blog Talk Radio, you can join in and share your wisdom on this topic by calling (347) 539-5818.

Are You Controlling if You Stand for Your Marriage? - The Dr. Joe Beam Show

    in Relationships

Your spouse wants out of the marriage...but you don't.

In the process of trying to end the marriage, your spouse is trying to do things that you want no part of. Maybe s/he's spending time with the "lover" while still living at home. Perhaps s/he's demanding things from you that you don't want to give about finances, custody, selling your home, or more.

Your friends / family want you to punish your spouse for such egregious behavior and such arrogantly selfish demands. Your attorney counsels going for everything you can get. Your own hurt and anger tempt you to make this divorce a most miserable experience for your spouse.

BUT your spouse says you're selfish, that your standing strong is just another example of you trying to control him/her, and that everything you are doing is definitive proof that s/he can't live with you and that divorce is the best thing that can happen.

You find yourself worrying whether you should give in to most of his/her demands. You wonder if your standing strong and fighting for your marriage is building such anger and resentment in your spouse that never will there ever be a chance for reconciliation. You even have doubts about your own motives and fear that s/he is right and that you are a mean, selfish person and that the way you're standing strong actually proves that to be true.

Would you like to know? Truly know if you are doing the right thing...if you are controlling or mean? In this program Dr. Joe Beam discusses this in depth. You can also call in your questions or comments on this topic live at 646-378-0424 during the program. It airs Tuesday, April 26, beginning at 9 p.m. Central.

Community & Service: A Path to Happiness

    in Relationships

Service has different meaning for many people. However, true service according to the ancient teachings of wisdom traditions is a path to happiness as well as greatness. Examples of great leaders are, Nelson Mandela, Mahatma Gandhi, Buddha, Jesus, Martin Luther King, Jr. Mother Teresa, Princes Diane to name but a few. All these leaders have one thing in common they served and went beyond a call of duty. Conceptually, one does not attained greatness until after one’s death. And sometimes it may take many years before society (people) realized the enormous contribution one has made to uplift the human condition. The challenge is that one cannot take the road to greatness by being of service; it is the other way around, one must take the road of service to be great. The benefits of service:  1. Service connects you to others 2. It helps you to make new friends and contacts 3.  You gain new skills 4.  Be happy find someone and somewhere to serve.  Dr. Martin Luther King said, "Everyone has the power for greatness -- not for fame, but greatness, because greatness is determined by service.”  Service is a matter of devotion and love!  You can share your wisdom on this topic by calling (347) 539-5818.
