Daryl and Taylor revive the "On This Day" feature of the Total Soccer Show to discuss Jurgen Klinsmann's famous goal-scoring celebration. On August 20, 1994, the then-Tottenham Hotspur forward mocked his growing reputation for diving by... well... doing just that, hurling his body to the ground following a lovely header against Sheffield Wednesday. The celebration had roots going back at least 4 years, and perhaps even 50, and would prove a hit with players in both England and beyond.
In this espisode of Soccer Saavy; presented by The Red Light Sports Network, sponsored by Irresistable Gourmet Popcorn. Mike Murphy and Troy Otradovec are going to chat about soccer in England. Lets talk about whats going across the pond. Why is this league suddenly gaining popularity in the United States? Why is EA sports making millions of dollars off video games? Fasten your seat belts and put your foot on the gas, we are talking about "football" European Style tonight.
In the first of our new Soccer Primer series, we discuss the differences between club and international football, including a look at the various non-World Cup international tournaments and the player transfer system that exists between clubs. And much much more.
What's this all about? Well, towards the end of the World Cup, we invited new soccer fans to send us quetions with the subject line: Primer. "We'll answer anything," we said. "There are no stupid questions, only Taylor's stupid answers," one of us said, off air. And the questions arrived. Then arived some more. They're actually still arriving.
So we've broken our Primer shows, in which we answer said questions, into a series. On the second Primer show, out this Monday, we'll discuss the soccer media, which TV channels are worth your money, and which you should avoid.
What's a Homegrown player? What is Generations Adidas? How does the Allocation Order work? Daryl has all the answers (because he researched them beforehand) as Albert and Taylor compete in the big TSS MLS quiz. We also answer all your MLS Primer questions, including some solid hipster avoidance advice.
In this episode of Soccer Saavy; presented by The Red LIght Sports Network; sponsored by Irresistable Gourmet Popcorn, Mike Murphy and Troy Otradovec tackle a very important soccer in American soccer. Club soccer has grown leaps and bounds over the years. The thing that is happening with club soccer is that players who want to play soccer in college are not playing at the High School level. So what has to happen with club soccer is that the players are now playing club soccer year round and taking away from high school participation. Fasten your seat belts and put your foot on the gas - Mike Murphy has an idea that will make you think he has been tipping the bottle.
Daryl and Taylor discuss the exciting/worryig/exciting new USMNT roster, which offers us a glimpse of the next generation of US national team players. Also discussued: jersey numbers, soccer tattoos, the club name "United" and a bartender who uses real life red and yellow cards. With our very specific predictions we preview Everton vs Chelsea, DC United vs New York Red Bull and Seattle Reign vs FC Kansas City.
In the second of our new "Soccer Primer Series", we discuss the different ways to watch the top leagues around the world, as well as strategies for doing so. In addition, we take a look at some of our favorite soccer websites, writers, books, movies, TV shows, and publications to help shed some light on ideal ways to continue to grow your soccer knowledge.
What's this all about? Well, towards the end of the World Cup, we invited new soccer fans to send us questions with the subject line "Primer". To date, we've received (and are continuing to receive) loads of great questions covering an incredibly wide range of topics. As such, we've done our best to divide our answers into different episodes focusing on particular subjects. Primer #1 discussed international vs club soccer, and Primer #3 will discuss all things tactics (formations, jersey numbers, why wingbacks are important, etc). So, download, enjoy, and keep the questions coming!
