"Up Close & Personal" with Mr. Guitar " David P. Stevens"

    in Entertainment

A versatile musician, Stevens grew up playing piano, drums and guitar at the Church of God, developing a dynamic performance style playing gospel music. He spent his teens playing in jazz and gospel bands, and developed sound and stage presence like one of his idols, Norman Brown, when he later emerged as an urban jazz artist. As his fan base grew with his early album releases, Stevens went from playing “any dive bar where they allowed jazz” in Philly to top clubs like North By Northwest, Warm Daddy’s and Relish. He and his band also played at various clubs down in Maryland, as well as the Woodrow Wilson Festival and the iconic Blues Alley club in Washington, DC.

Stevens has also performed at The Harlem Meer Festival, at The Iridium in NYC with Alex Bugnon, and the Jazz Base in Reading, PA. Over the past two years, he also did a full European tour through Austria, Switzerland and Germany. In addition to playing on the Capital Jazz SuperCruise, he has been part of the All-Star Jam Festival at Berks Jazz Fest the past three years, sharing the stage with such luminaries as Gerald Albright, Nick Colionne and Scott Ambush from Spyro Gyra. “One of the things I’m known for live is bringing a lot of energy to the stage and incorporating many exciting elements, including background singers,” Stevens says.

He is the only child of American funk/R&B singer Mallia Franklin of Parliament-Funkadelic/Parlet fame, also known as the Queen of Funk and session drummer Nathaniel "Nate" Neblett. As a child, he sang on songs by Parliament, Funkadelic and Bootsy's Rubber Band "This Boot Is Made For Funk'n". In 1989, Derrick Ladd (A&R) offered him an opportunity to join the roster of the newly formed LaFace Records, but Seth declined because he was reluctant to leave his group to become a solo artist. The site was defunct shortly after. He's created content with friends and music celebrities like Maxi B. of the Mary Jane Girls, Miki Howard, Sheila E. and others. Seth is writing a autobiography with his mother and her funk singing sisters, The Brides of Funkenstein and Parlet. Seth's Mother, Mallia "Queen of Funk" Franklin died at the age of 57 in 2010. The Thomas Loop Radio Show on WJJL-1440AM - Fingerstyle Guitar - 6/24/2015

    in Music

June 24th, 2015's edition of The Thomas Loop Radio Show features The Fingerstyle Guitar Genre.  Music by Ben Lacy - http://www.benlacy.com/ - Adam Rafferty http://www.adamrafferty.com - Jamie Holka - http://www.jamieholka.com

A snippet of Ben Lacy's bio - The February 2007 issue of Guitar Player Magazine named Ben as one of the Top 101 Forgotten Greats & Unsung Guitar Heroes.  20th Century Guitar's August 2006 issue had a 2-page article about Ben.  Following is an excerpt.  "About once a decade, a new guitar talent comes along that knocks this writer out.  It was like that when I first saw and heard Michael Hedges.  So musical, so unique.  Same with Stanley Jordan.  Four years ago, I met the newest killer guitarist at a California NAMM Show...

Snippet of Adam Rafferty's bio -

I’m Adam Rafferty – welcome to my website. I am a guitar player born and raised in New York City, and currently spending most of my time on the road playing concerts and doing workshops.

Playing music for people is my #1 passion.

I also equally love teaching music to anyone who is dedicated.

I love helping people achieve “aha” moments. Sometimes these insights “bleed” into a personal development – flavor!

Snippet of Jamie Holka's bio -

Jamie Holka is a solo finger-style guitarist from Niagara Falls NY.  His style incorporates many layers to assimilate bass, drums, chords and melody. Switching between a Gibson L-5 and a Maton Michael Fix model, he’s able to create quite a diverse sound.
