Professor Gregg Hammond~ Musician, Mentor, Guitar Teacher, Philanthropist, Author. Born in DC Gregg's family moved away in the late 60's to escape the violence of the riots. The move landed him in the Florida Keys where he grew up and learned to live in the natural surroundings, worked teaching fishing, snorkeling, & exploring in the backcountry islands of the Keys. Hurricane's destroyed his guitar studio and then his home. With his dog and a guitar, he began a journey to find a larger purpose for his life. He traveled highways and wilderness mountains, searching for his truth. Returning to DC in 2002, Gregg experienced violence in the streets. His father and he were randomly attacked by a gang of kids in 04. Held at gunpoint by teens in 05, and nearly ambushed again from another gang in 06. These experiences compelled him to take action to make a difference. He founded GNG DC, and volunteers his time, wearing many hats within the charity to keep it going. He has witnessed miracles in the classroom. His VISION includes bringing the world together, all playing the same song at the same time, featuring many of the Guitars Not Guns students up on the stages with great musicians like Paul McCartney, U2, Ben Harper, and Sting to mention a few on the list.

Wednesday, March 12, 3 pm ET, The Halli Casser-Jayne Show, Talk Radio for Fine Minds welcomes arguably one of the great guitar players of our time, Roger McGuinn.
Guitar player, singer, songwriter, Roger McGuinn is best known as the lead singer and lead guitarist of The Byrds, today considered by critics to be one of the most influential bands of the 1960s, pioneering the musical genre of folk rock, melding the influence of The Beatles and other British Invasion bands with contemporary and traditional folk music.
McGuinn was voted in the top five on Rolling Stone’s list of greatest guitar players of all time, praised for his chordal 12-string Rickenbacker riffs, the sonic bridge between folk and rock that changed music forever.
Jim McGuinn was a kid from the Windy City when he became interested in music after hearing Elvis Presley’s Heartbreak Hotel, which inspired him to pick up the guitar. The rest, as they say, is history. McGuinn would play with The Limeliters, The Chad Mitchell Trio, Bob Dylan, Bo Diddley, Judy Collins and Bobby Darin. He and fellow Byrd members that included Gene Clark, David Crosby, Gram Parsons, Chris Hillman would make songs such as Mr. Tambourine Man, Turn Turn Turn, Eight Miles High and The Ballad of Easy Rider number one hits. In 1991 The Byrds were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Trying something for the fun of trying something new
A student produced and directed electric/ audio guitar trio broadcast for the first time on the internet
This was a spur of the moment thing involving three students who were trying to figure out the best way to live broadcast a mini-concert while at the same time play to a live audience.
We were also joined by 2 DJ s who acted cohosts.
My job was to let them try and see what happen in order to set a starting point of reference for future improvements. We had done some past shows trying to do the same types of things and each show is getting better while we make new mistakes as we try different things
Isn't this what Education is all about?

Will and Thunder are excited to welcome LA's own Chris Sestric to talk about his band, new album called 'Something About The Snake,' and anything else he wants to talk about when he joins us.
Les Paul guitars on a Marshall with high vocals. Can't go wrong there!
Dedicated rock & roller Chris Sestric began working on his record “Something About The Snake” as a side project while playing in a host of Hollywood based bands, the longest tenures being with The Resistance and The Undead M.
Born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA Chris is an accomplished musician, composer, songwriter and music producer. He has a bachelor’s degree from Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA where he majored in Film Scoring and a secondary focus in Contemporary Writing & Production.
The heavy rock music of the early 90s was Chris’s most impressionable period. He sites Guns n’ Roses as his all time favorite band and hearing Steve Vai’s “Passion & Warfare “ as a life changing musical experience. While ignoring most mainstream music of the late 90s and early 2000s, Chris expanded his musicianship through the study of jazz and classical genres.
Since moving to Los Angeles Chris has worked as a music assistant to several Hollywood film composers on a per project basis, most notably Richard Gibbs. He has played guitar, sang and composed music for a variety of projects including film scores, jingles and music libraries.
This episode we will discuss playing guitar solos during worship sets. What type of solos do you play? Improv? Exactly Like the recording? We will also talk about how some guitarists prefer to approach soloing.
Also on the board, we will talk about online guitar lessons. Are they worth the monthly fee or is working with a guitar teacher one one best for you? As always prayer requests and general discussions.
