Running a government, whether it is a city, state, or country, is like running a household. You look at what your operating costs are, look at your total household income, and decide how to spend the money you make to pay bills and make sure everyone is fed, clothed, kept warm and safe, and educated. That's what good parents do to take care of the children whose lives are in their hands. The problem with some elected officials is that they are not being good "parents" of the "children" they are supposed to take care of, namely, the voters who are entrusting them with decisions that affect people's lives. Schools in Illinois are being threatened with closure because Governor Bruce Rauner, elected by a small percentage of votes, has held up the release of funds for education, refusing to sign legislation presented by the Illinois General Assembly. Students have united to fight for their right to receive education and are mounting a massive voter registration drive, as well as mass demonstrations and lobbying elected officials to push the Governor to act. If not, what next? Students have already shown how economic boycotts and refusal of sports teams to play can have an impact. Today's guests, student leaders Darren Martin from Chicago State University and Nicolas Martinez from Northeastern Illinois University discuss the power of a new, politically involved, educated generation.

“God closes a door and then opens a window,” people sometimes say when dealing with their own disappointment or someone else’s. That was certainly true in Marguerite’s case. Children from European as well as Native American backgrounds in seventeenth-century Canada benefited from her great zeal and unshakable trust in God’s providence.
Marguerite at the age of 20 believed that she was called to religious life. Her applications to the Carmelites and Poor Clares were unsuccessful.
In 1654, the governor of the French settlement in Canada invited her to come to Canada and start a school in Ville-Marie.
Soon after starting a school, she realized her need for coworkers. Returning to Troyes, she recruited a friend, Catherine Crolo, and two other young women. In 1667 they added classes at their school for Indian children. A second trip to France three years later resulted in six more young women and a letter from King Louis XIV, authorizing the school.
Marguerite established a school for Indian girls in Montreal. At the age of 69, she walked from Montreal to Quebec in response to the bishop’s request to establish a community of her sisters in that city. By the time she died, she was referred to as the “Mother of the Colony.” Marguerite was canonized in 1982.

Hey Family, Join us at a special time tomorrow for an amazing show! We'll discuss the Iowa Caucus results as well the latest Democratic Debate. Joining us for that segment will be none other than Democratic Strategist Jamal Simmons. We'll also discuss the latest with Chicago Public Schools and Governor Rauner and the Congressional hearing on the Flint Water Crisis. Lastly, we'll discuss the tragic death of Gynnya McMillen, the latest black body to die in police custody.
This show will examine whether Flint's water supply was intentionally poisoned as an act of genocide as Councilman Wantwaz Davis and film maker Michael Moore have both stated.
Back in December, before the crisis became a national news story, Moore tweeted:
This is a racial killing, Flint is 60% African American. When you knowingly poison a Black city, you are committing a version of genocide. If this were elsewhere, and the white leader blocked a Black city's clean water supply and made them drink poison, we'd call it ethnic cleansing.
The One Before Super Bowl 50
A lot happening politically, as Democrats had another great debate, as we approach the 2016 New Hampshire Primary.
Can Republicans put their collective shit together or continue to make absolute fools of themselves?
Did Marco Rubio plagerize Barack Obama's Speech?
Is it the swan song for The Donald?
Jeb Bush had his mommy stumping for him. Is he politically dead at this point and can he fight back to win the 2016 GOP nomination?
If it turns out to be a brokered GOP Convention, can a guy like Governor John Kasich galvanize Republicans? Who else will drop out after the New Hampshire Primary?
Who won the Democratic Debate: Hillary or Bernie?
Who do you want to see win the Super Bowl and Why?
These and many other questions to be answered as we roll along. Sit back, relax and fire up yourself for 2 hours of politics, football as well as political winners and losers across America.

This is a sermon I shared on the importance of not thinking little of what you do for other people. Here is some of what I shared:
More than you Think
“Nobody made a greater mistake than he who did nothing because he could only do a little.” Edmund Burke
“I’ve seen and met angels wearing the disguise of ordinary people living ordinary lives.” Tracy Chapman
“I’ve learned that you shouldn’t go through life with a catchers mitt on both hands. You need to be able to throw something back.” Maya Angelou
“The great use of life is to spend it for something that outlasts it.” William James
“It is the heart that does the giving; the fingers only let go.” Nigerian saying
There are some gifts that are given for one intent but received it with another intent. The wise men brought frankincense which was medicine but the Jewish people used it for religious ceremonies.
There is something else that jumps out at me while I re-read this story. The wise men offered their gifts with HUMILTY.
There is so much more that I shared...please tune in and share with your friends and family.
