On May 5, 2015, Alberta heads to the polls in the most anticipated "unnecessary" election in more than a generation. In 110 years, only four political parties have formed Government in the province. So far every party that has lost power has virtually disappeared from the map.
Considering this election was not necessary until 2016, Jim Prentice might be reconsidering a bit now. The PC's are in third place after 44 years in power. The New Democrats and the supposed dead Wildrose sit atop polling as they have from the outset of the campaign. There is a much different tone in the air this time around. No more coronations. It's looking like no more same old. General consensus is the higher the turnout, the bigger the loss for Prentice will be.
We will look at the leaders of the five parties involved. We will look at any major policy goals of each. We will look at the one and only televised debate performances and effects of same. And we will look at the gaffes, leaks, mistakes, feuds, attacks and punditry of the campaign. It is not being discussed openly in media but the results in Alberta could be very influential as Canada heads towards a federal election this October at the latest. Jim Prentice and Brian Jean are both former MP's in Harper's CPC with Prentice far and away having the better of Jean on that score. So what would it tell Canada if the NDP formed government in Alberta of all places, over Emperor's messengers?
Calls welcome, especially from Albertans! Join us for some insight into the seemingly ending conservative heartland.
It's been another huge week in Australian politics. There remains dissent among Government back-benchers with the Prime Minister continuing to make gaffes. But then the Labor Party opposition found itself on the wrong side of Australian opinion by supporting data retention laws. With so much going on we're reminded of the passing of former Prime Minister Malcolm Fraser - another giant in Australian politics.
So make sure you come and join the team and vent your spleen.
There's heaps to vent about.
Australian politics has certainly been anything but boring. With Queenslanders deciding that the embattled and hostile Premier Newman and LNP had had enough after one term, the leadership concerns at a national level became white hot.
Before Christmas and despite hitting the reset button, Prime Minister Tony Abbott continued to make errors and gaffes and serious questions were raised about his capacity to learn from mistakes and reflect on changing his leadership style.
Well apparently these questions have been taken seriously with the LNP looking to dump its first term Prime Minister, despite promising to not do the same thing as the last government did. And here we are.
So join in and vent your spleen with the team.
In this episode of Independence Nation, president of Light of Life Keith A. Pitts, MSE tackles the issue of Secret Service gaffes and how it relates to past instances of misconduct, as well as other sectors of government who have had similar mishaps. The head of the Secret Service took responsibility for recent White House security breaches during a congressional hearing on Tuesday and promised to persevere notwithstanding a number of lapses that occurred on her watch.
If Austraila's federal government was like a football team, the coach and leadership team would've been sacked.
It's been another poor week for Australia's federal government. There's been more gaffes than you can poke a stick at but they are taking their toll on the government's polling figures. It's also starting to dent the percption of the government as being in charge.
With negotiations still going on the federal government's disastruous budget, it's not looking like this government will be able to turn its fortunes around anytime soon.
Make sure you join the team as they vent their spleen - it's always more fun with others.
"Make no mistake," Barack Obama instigated the Latin American invasion of the United States - and a new White House decree will force U.S. municipalities to house them; John Kerry gets sick of eating crow on the Sunday shows and vomits his anti-Israel frustrations near Chris Wallace's open mic; and "The Putin Games" roll guffawingly on.
Did I just read that right? Did he say what I thought he said? Oh no, she didn’t! WTF?!
These are just some of the thoughts that go through my head each day as I navigate the Interwebz. And I know I’m not alone. Social media is both a blessing and a curse: it allows us to reach audiences and forge relationships across the country and the globe. It gives us a feeling of community and connectedness most of us would never be able to access otherwise. And it provides endless opportunities for us to commit some of the most blatant communications faux pas—some of which might be unforgiveable.
What are they? You tell me. On Wednesday, 11/16 at 11 AM EST, I’m taking your calls about social media gaffes—how to avoid making them, and how to recover if you do. Tune in and call in with your questions.
Now in its sixth year, the Obama administration is setting new lows for how bad our economic and foreign policy condition can get. From the VA scandal to the Russians in Ukraine to a contracting economy, there seems no basement to how bad things are getting under this "leadership." And the response of the establishment media is to distract, spin and blame the bad economy on the weather. We will discuss the administration's most recent gaffes and failures, as well as the comical attempts of its water carriers to smear lipstick on this hideous boar of a presidency.
City of Champions Radio host Matt Gajtka is back for another Burgh Brew podcast, as he talks his way through the Pittsburgh Penguins' bizarre, inexplicable Game 4 loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets. What sense can be made as their crazy first-round Stanley Cup playoff series is tied at 2? What to say about Marc-Andre Fleury's late gaffes that spoiled another terrific performance? What about the continued scoring droughts of Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin? Who's playing well unexpectedly? Matt addresses those topics, plus he looks at the slumping Pirates' sloppy recent play and the Steelers' 2014 schedule.
