Our guests this morning are Jackie Berling, Chief Wellness Officer for Beach Cities Health District in Redondo Beach and Cindy Foster, General Manager of AdventurePlex and the Center for Health & Fitness.
Jackie joined BCHD, the nation’s largest preventive health agency, in 2002 to oversee human resources, and then transitioned to operations and wellness in 2014. She is responsible for providing leadership in developing and executing business and operational strategies to effectively meet the overall business plan and strategic direction of BCHD. Jackie is also tasked with designing and implementing a no-cost community wellness program that helps employers in the beach cities create healthier and more productive work environments.
Cindy Foster has been the General Manager of AdventurePlex since 2007 and has managed the Center for Health & Fitness since 2012. She was an elementary school teacher for Redondo Beach Unified School District from 1989 to 1994 and became an elementary health educator developing K-6 health curriculum and successfully delivered it across 15 schools in Redondo Beach, Hermosa Beach and Manhattan Beach.
This morning, we’re going to catch up with BCHD’s various programs and learn about Adventureplex and the new Toddler Town. Toddler Town is specially designed as a toddler-only zone (ages 0-5) for families to learn about farm-to-table nutrition, and nurture development through fun, interactive play. It will also offer everything toddler including drop-in play, classes and birthday parties.

He is a member of the Mecklenburg County Young Republicans, and the Charlotte Junior Chamber, and in 2012 was a North Carolina Delegate to the GOP Convention in Tampa. In 2009, Kelly began attending County Executive Committee meetings and Republican club meetings. Later, he ran and defeated an 18 year incumbent Precinct Chair in Corinth who had not been active for some time. From there Kelly was in charge of a phone bank at Denton County GOP headquarters, which operated 4-5 evenings per week for 9 weeks in the fall of 2012. Kelly later became Vice Chair of Finance, Chair of Senate District 12 Nominations and then Area Leader and Vice Chair of Political Affairs. Kelly has served hundreds of hours as a volunteer for the annual Lincoln Reagan Dinner and community outreach events. Kelly has attended numerous Precinct Chair Conventions, Senate District Conventions and State Conventions. In addition to this experience, Kelly has 33 years of executive experience as owner of a 9-store operation reaching from Granbury to Childress, Texas.
