Interview with Jerrery Orenstein, Ph.D.author "Fixing American Government" published January, 2015.
American government is broken. There is gridlock in Washington and in many state capitals and voters are apathetic and angry. Democracy is under siege by the corrupting influence of money in politics and by those who put ideological purity ahead of good public policy. How did this happen? What can we do about it?Fixing American Government is one political scientist-turned-journalist’s answer. It analyzes the roots of the problem and prescribes remedies that are practical and consistent with American political culture and traditions. It is a must-read for political activists of any stripe, citizens who care about our political system and those who want to see American government work again.
As we look at our nation at Valentine’s Day, 2105, we observe that today’s United States of America has evolved to be far more democratic than it was in 1787, with the enfranchisement of women, the abolition of property qualifications for voting and the direct election of the Senate as democratic milestones. There is clear and present evidence that this partial democratic evolution has been a major factor in the nation’s greatness and appeal.
Precisely because the elements of democracy that we do possess in our political system has stood us in such good stead, we should continue our evolution toward perfecting our system of government by becoming even more democratic than we are. We need to eliminate malapportionment, equalize the voices of those who are not billionaires and think long and hard about the meaning of the term general election, for starters.
Some of us think and deeply believe that if we complain long enough we will somehow magically solve the problem or issue we been complaining about - not realizing that in order to complain about an issue it is necessary to focus on the very same issue from the perspective of what's wrong rather that how we would prefer it to be. .....
Does this outlook typically create added problems or actual solutions?

This week we bring you another double-length episode of Interop Radio. Both sides of the show feature incredible guests taking on important issues: It's just the kind of episode the Interop Community has been asking for!
In the first half of the program we have a panel discussion on the technology that makes events like Interop possible (and valuable) for attendees and exhibitors alike. When it works, we don't see the technology at all but it's worth taking a closer look at the "invisible tech" that forms the foundation of the modern conference and expo experience.
Our panelists for the discussion are:
Romi Mahajan, CEO/President KKM Group
Ivan Tarapov, CTO/Limefy
John Hooberman, VP Biz Dev/Advaiya Solutions
In the program's second half we're talking with Tim Titus, CTO of InteropNet partner Path Solutions. Tim has spent a lot of time thinking about the tools and process for solving problems in technology -- and his process can work for solving problems whether or not technology is the focus.

How do you know if you have a a water leak or a leaky toilet? In this podcast by Charlotte Home Inspector Preston Sandlin he explains how you can tell and ways to fix it. One of the first signs of a waer leak would be an increase in the water bill. You might have a leak at the toilet or you could have a dripping faucet. If your water meter runs continiously this would probably be another sign that you might have a water leak. Check for wet areas around your yard. In this podcast Charlotte home inspector Preston Sandlin will dicuss these and many other possibilities and will tell you how to repair a leaky toilet including replaing the wax ring.
If you have any questions about water leaks, leaky toilets or any other home inspection questions please call Home Inspection Carolina at 704-542-6575

In this episode we'll take a look at how you can change your experience of "work" into something more positive.
The point of work shouldn’t be just to finish. The point of work should be the work itself. That’s the way it’s supposed to be anyway. We spend a lot of time trying to find ways to be more productive. To do things faster, better, cheaper and spend our time more effectively. But instead of just doing more in less time, we could focus on actually enjoying the work we’re doing instead. Listen in for some suggestions on how to accomplish just that.
And since this is "The Show that Listens to You, then talks back" I welcome your calls to let me know what's on your mind.
