After Sony attempted to reboot its “Spider-Man” franchise with Andrew Garfield as the web slinger, the studio is ready to give it a third try, this time with Kevin Feige, the man who has produced 10 consecutive blockbusters for Marvel Studios.
A deal to free up Spider-Man to appear in the Marvel cinematic universe, starting in 2017, is a clear admission by Sony that its superhero strategy with one of the most popular comicbook heroes around simply isn’t working.
That’s especially true at a time when the studio is desperate for some major film franchises. Struggling with one of the comicbook industry’s most popular superheroes was starting to get embarrassing — especially when “Guardians of the Galaxy,” starring a cast of misfits unknown to most moviegoers, broke out as a bigger hit in 2014 than the last “Spider-Man” movie when it made $774 million. “The Amazing Spider Man 2″ earned nearly $709 million worldwide.
“The Amazing Spider-Man 2″ just wasn’t the billion-dollar hit that Sony’s Amy Pascal had been looking for last year — and needed to be in order to keep full control over the character. That movie became the lowest grossing film of Sony’s five Spidey films to date, and forced the studio to instantly start rethinking its plans for the character, even giving up a piece of the franchise.

American film composer Matthew Margeson was born in Bricktown, New Jersey
and began studying classical and jazz piano at a very early age. He attended Berklee
College of Music in Boston, where he studied film music and honed his skills as a
pianist. Matthew relocated to Los Angeles in 2003 and was invited to start an
apprenticeship at Hans Zimmer’s Remote Control Productions. While at Remote
Control, Margeson developed his composition style by collaborating with Zimmer and
other composers on feature films such as: PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: ON
STRANGER TIDES, X-MEN: FIRST CLASS, and CAPTAIN AMERICA: WINTER
SOLDIER among many others. Margeson’s music has been performed and recorded
by orchestras in Los Angeles and London, as well as other ensembles throughout
Eastern Europe. In 2010, Margeson completed his first studio feature, SKYLINE, for Universal Studios. This score led to a nomination for the BSOSPIRIT Revelation Composer
Award at the Úbeda Film Music Festival. In addition to Margeson’s film contributions, he has also composed the music for the Universal Studio Tram Tour, as well as multiple TV shows and video games, including HBO’s EASTBOUND AND DOWN, and Sony Playstation’s ALL-STAR BATTLE ROYALE and KNACK. Most recently, Margeson provided the underscore arrangements for Disney’s acclaimed INTO THE WOODS, directed by Rob Marshall. Margeson has also just completed writing the scores to Matthew Vaughn’s highly anticipated KINGSMAN: THE SECRET SERVICE, as well as Paramount’s SCOUTS VS. ZOMBIES, directed by Christopher Landon. Both films will be released in theatres worldwide in 2015.You can email your questions to firstname.lastname@example.org or follow us on Twitter @123Film
