Now let’s get a few things straight about the Mittleider Method.
We all have favorite ways of doing things. Sometimes we do things out of habit, sometimes it’s just the way we learned from others and don’t know any different.
Sometimes people don’t want to know a better way of doing things for one or more of several reasons: 1) It takes time and energy to learn, 2) It challenges tradition, 3) There’s money, equipment and other resources invested in the status quo, 4) Most people just naturally resist change, 5) Some folks are just by nature a naysayer and will not warm up to anything, 6) But probably the hardest to over come is the pride of ownership, call it the “Not invented here syndrome.” It comes right down not wanting to admit that there might be something you didn’t know, and someone else figured it out.
Take gardening for instance. There are many different methods that people use. One public detractor of the Mittleider System announces “The six reasons I don’t use the Mittleider System”. In this session with the Family Garden Doctor, Jim Kennard uses those 6 supposed negative reasons to explain his six reasons why you absolutely should use the Mittleider System.
Besides, it’s hard to try and reinvent the wheel and challenge the success record of what Dr. Mittleider accomplished: a 37 year track record in 27 countries with over 75 major growing projects including several agricultural schools. He improved the economy of families, communities and countries. One wise person said, “A man with experience is never at the mercy of a man with a theory”.

Everywhere I look in our small town in Missouri peoples gardens are dry and dying. Tomato plants are typically about 18" tall, a gray-green color, and any fruit is small and green. The drought has decimated most family gardens, unless the people have had access to reliable water and hand-watered regularly. Hows YOUR garden doing? J. R. Mittleiders great book Lets Grow Tomatoes tells you all you need to know about growing tomatoes. After reading AND APPLYING the principles and procedures outlined so well in this book you will be the community expert, just as Wally & Victoria Roth are in Central Oregon (see victoriasvegetables.com) . Join me - Your Family Garden Doctor - to learn more about growing great tomatoes - and for the first 50 of you we will make the digital download of Lets Grow Tomatoes available FREE! This week we have the fun privilege of interviewing a Mittleider Gardener who is also something of an expert on nutrition through the preparation and eating of whole foods. Elisa, who lives on the high plains of eastern Wyoming where the weather can be very difficult for gardening, grows an excellent garden and feeds her family of 5 boys a great diet of inexpensive but very healthy foods - much of which comes from their garden. Join me to learn how they have done it! And you will get a couple of great "take-away" bonuses for being there as well - one from me, and one from her.
