01:00Building the New Evolutionary Community
This week we'll be talking with Kerry Lindsey, founder and creator of Highland Lake Cove Retreat and Learning Center in Flat Rock, NC, where residents and visitors are sustained by the natural beauty of the land, the garden-centered cuisine and the stewardship of a teaching/learning community dedicated to the awakening and full blossoming of the human spirit. The "Cove", as it's sometimes called, also consists of a small working farm and gardens, walking trails, a yoga studio, a 30-acre lake with canoes, private meeting facilities, a water front event center, and accomodations ranging from private retreat style rooms and camp cabins to well-appointed 2 and 3 BR cottages, as well as an award-winning restaurant.
We'll be talking to Kerry about the community, what's happening there, his vision for developing conscious and integral community in this stunning retreat center just outside Asheville, NC., and asking, "Why is community so hard?"

Building the Perfect Intentional Community
There is no doubt in my mind that my desire to shape a community model based on resilience, sustainability, love, and emotional, spiritual, and physical preparedness, has been shaped by my failure - much of that failure my fault - to inspire and create that type of model here where we currently are. For that, I am both sad and grateful; sad that most of our community friends and neighbors won't be joining us on this journey into what we see as the next evolutionary step in community, and that we'll apparently have to leave to bring that vision to life (whether we can or not remains to be seen), and grateful that we've had the experiences where we currently are that have helped us shape and clarify that vision.
What seems obvious to us is that the world is changing and we have to change with it. As we frequently say on this website: It's not if you'll participate in the coming changes that have already begun, but how...
Join me this Thursday evening as I lead a discussion - with you - about building intentional community. Why do 90% of them fail and how can we succeed on this needed next co-evolutionary step that we must take together if we are to truly evolve into higher ways of being?
