The date was June 1, 1921 when "Black Wall Street", the name fittingly given to one of the most affluent all-Black communities in America, was bombed from the air and burned to the ground by mobs of envious whites. In a period spanning fewer than 12 hours, a once thriving Black business district in northern Tulsa lay smoldering--a model community destroyed and a major African-American economic movement resoundingly defused. The dollar circulated 36 to 100 times, sometimes taking a year for currency to leave the community. Now a dollar leaves the Black community in 15-minutes.
As a fitting tribute to Black Wall Street Eric Hamilton, Co-Founcer of the Around The Way APP joins me here at Lette's Chat to discuss how his APP is a technological tribute to Black Wall Street and Black Businesses around the country. Please download the APP and more importantly, spend your important and powerful dollars at a Black-owned business. Around The Way was recently named tech startup of the week by Black Enterprise.

On the next edition of Fiber Hooligan (10/7/13), Ron & Theresa Miskin will be interviewing Cornelia Tuttle Hamilton.
Cornelia is now in the 30th year of her design career. She started in New York where she developed her talent during the early 80’s. There she designed for knitting magazines, specialty shops and a private clientele. The high point of her time in NY was a hand knit collection under her own label that was sold to select boutiques in 20 states from Florida to Alaska.
A move over the Atlantic from New York to Sweden 26 years ago gave her the peace and harmony to raise a family and further develop her artistic creativity. The business diversified and she started distributing the artisan yarn collections from Noro, Colinette, Koigu and Malabrigo in Scandinavia.
Cornelia has 12 pattern books to her name. The last - Noro: Meet the Man was published by Soho Publishing in the fall of 2009. A new book will be released next month using the Poems Collection from Universal Yarn.
For the past two years Cornelia Tuttle Hamilton has been focussing more of her efforts in designing for & promoting her own yarn label - Heaven’s Hand.
