Joshua Davis is a writer, film producer and co-founder of Epic Magazine and Epic Digital. In 2013, Josh and Joshuah Bearman formed EPIC, a magazine devoted to telling extraordinary true stories. The venture comes on the heels of Argo, the Academy Award-winning film, which was based on an article Bearman wrote. Over the past 10 years, Josh and Bearman have sold 20 articles to Hollywood, with 2 films produced. In 2003, Josh covered the Iraq war for Wired Magazine, where he is a Contributing Editor. He has tracked rumors of genetically modified cocaine behind rebel lines in Colombia, investigated the world’s largest diamond heist, and hunted the source of a cyberwar in Russia. Josh's work has thrice been selected "Best of Technology Writing" by Yale University Press and has also been anthologized in the 2007 and 2012 editions of "Best American Science Writing." In 2014, he was nominated for a National Magazine Award. In 2005, Random House published Josh's memoir, "The Underdog," which details his journey through some of the world's most outlandish competitions. The Los Angeles Times calls it "laugh out loud funny," and Entertainment Weekly declares "the rewarding Underdog proves that Davis is a winner at something." His magazine writing has appeared in The New Yorker, Wired, GQ, Outside, Food & Wine, Men’s Journal, Men's Health and Maxim. PodVader talks to Bengals SuperFan, English Simon, Chargers SuperFan, Ken Priest, and Patriots SuperFan, Patrick Siska, about the retirement of Troy Polamalu, the suspensions of Le'veon Bell and Lagarrette Blount and who's left in NFL free agency from a bargain perspective.
First off, Troy Polamalu retires. What's this mean for the Steelers and is he really a first ballot Hall of Famer?
Next up, Le'veon Bell and Lagarrette Blount are suspended. Bell for 3 games and Blount for 1. Oh how will the teams survive? Do you note the sarcasm? How important is a "factor back" in today's NFL?
Potential bargain free agents remain - anyone want Greg Jennings? Ahmad Bradshaw? Joe Barksdale? Chris Meyers? Da'qwon Bowers? Brandon Spikes? Is Michael Crabtree a bargain option at this point?
Quiet time as the NFL Draft approaches and just as we're about to wrap up, Patrick let's loose with an epic Patriots rant that is not to be missed.

Amy Alkon's Advice Goddess Radio: "Nerd Your Way To A Better Life!" with the best brains in science.
*"Best of" replay tonight.
Dilbert cartoonist Scott Adams, obviously, is not a scientist. But he thinks and views his experiences like a scientist and his wisdom is well-supported.
For example, Adams found that it isn't goals that are the key to success, but what he calls "systems."
And Adams advises, based on his own steady stream of failures in business, that "Everything you want in life is in that bubbling vat of failure. The trick is to get the good stuff out."
As a cartoonist, he thinks of himself as a "professional simplifier." That's what he does in his just-published book, How To Fail at Almost Everything and Still Win Big, and simplifying for all of us what it takes to succeed in business and be happy in life is what he does on tonight's not-to-be-missed show.

It was a crazy week on TV, starting with The Real's Quesadilla fail and then the "Planet of the Apes" comment about Michelle Obama from former Unvision host Rodner Figueroa.
We talk with Laura Martínez of Mi blog es tu blog and the fabulous Melissa Salas Blair about it all.

To date, United States clings to the concept of rugged individualism- predicated upon the understanding that most people are capable of taking care of themselves and people should be left to succeed or fail on their own and the government should be limited to protection of civil liberties without a social safety net for people who are the poor, unemployed, and those who cannot work due to youth, old age, and disability. The emergence of the progressive movement held that the government should have a greater role in promoting a better life for all of its citizens.
The US has not followed other developed democracies in the establishment of a comprehensive model for assuring its citizens' well being because the United States has enjoyed a period of unprecedented economic growth due to its being the sole industrialized country on the planet whose productive capacity has never been destroyed by enemy nations; however, with the rise of growing income inequality and mounting public debt, there is renewed debate over the role of government in modern society. Social models in place have failed when addressing problems localized in low socioeconomic and ethnically dense populated areas and it is time that those experiencing domestic and family violence must develop social models and paradigns that are effective in modifying behavior, cultural beliefs and overcoming fears that inadvertently support aggressive aberrant behaviors.Non-profit organizations who are having amazing success in changing the behavior and mindset of persons living in low socioeconomic areas utilize the concept of family-style approach model, but create a “family” for the victims by involving the community in spiritual and socially engaging activities.
Is it Power struggles? Distrust? Distrust as a result of philandering and secrecy? Or getting involved with someone you should have never been with in the first place?
