In The Streets with Beverley Smith: Flint, A Study in Environmental Racism -ep53

    in Spirituality

Flint, Michigan: environmental racism on display. The powers-that-be have knowingly, and with forethought, poisoned the tap water of the predominately black city since April 2014. This atrocity was recently uncovered and publicized, but no one has yet been held accountable. Water bills continue to be issued and the residents have been warned that they risk losing custody of their children if they don't pay for the poisoned water. The local EPA official quit last week. There is demand for Michigan's Republican govornor to resign. And there are rumors that undocumented immigrants in Flint are being refused the bottled water that has been sent to the area. Environmental racism is real. According to the The Center for Public Integrity, out of "300 complaints filed by communities of color, the EPA have never once made a formal finding of a civil-rights violation."

Another black youth has died in custody. Her name was Gynna McMillen. She was 16.

The trial of the officer who shot and killed Akai Gurley in NYC has begun. On the day he was shot, Akai Gurley was declared to be a "total innocent" by Chief Bill Bratton. But that doesn't stop the NYPD officer Peter Liang from attempting to avoid criminal responsibilty. President Obama bans solitary confinement for juveniles in federal prisons. Grand jury indicts two anti-abortion activists behind the fake Planned Parenthood videos. In response, Texas doubles down on its intention to completely financially strip the state Planned Parenthood. A federal court in North Carolina will hear a challenge to the state's restrictive voter ID law. And more. Tuesday, January 26, 6pm Pacific.

This Crazy Time: Living Our Environmental Challenge

    in Environment

    Tzeporah Berman

Truth be told, Tzeporah Berman is one of my heroes. I don't know where to begin. She is the author of the book This Crazy Time and it's a great book. She has been designing and winning environmental campaigns in Canada and internationally for 20 years. Ms. Berman currently works as a strategic advisor for dozens of environmental organizations, First Nations and philanthropic advisors on clean energy, oil sands and pipelines. She is the former co-director of Greenpeace International's Global Climate and Energy Program,  Executive Director and Co-founder of PowerUp Canada and Co-founder and Campaign Director of ForestEthics. And above all else, Tzeporah is a wife and mother who cares deeply and sincerely about this great planet of ours. I have heard her speak and I could not wait to share HER with the MGW tribe. Just pinch me. This show made possible due to the generous support of The Chapman Automotive Group.

Roxanne Pappas Radio: Wicked Green Energy Lady: Hot off the Press!

    in Environment

My very special guest is Ed Kenny, Ambassador with Viridian Energy.  He's just back from Viridian's Accelerate conference in Texas and has the latest news.  Can't give you a hint because even I don't know what it is!  So we'll just have to wait!

With the deregulation of the telecom industry in the 1990s, Ed and his brother Brenden were in the right place at the right time and created a powerful business as Nextel distributors. They never thought they could strike gold again, but after being presented the Viridian business opportunity in February 2010, they knew it was possible.  According to Ed, he is positively affecting other people in the Viridian organization, changing their lives for the better and helping them achieve goals and dreams.

Meanwhile, Ed feels that In a period of economic flux where many are stuck in the middle of a career change or are unemployed, something new and financially promising is not just a want—it’s a need. He advises that weariness can't consume you when an opportunity like Viridian comes along.

Because of Ed's hard work he has been able to participate in Viridian's 7 Continents in 7 Years program which is the mainstay of Viridian's global efforts - the  commitment to complete a sustainability project on a different continent each year.

About The Host: Roxanne Pappas is the Host of Wicked Green Energy, a show, dedicated to educating individuals about cutting edge green choices for the sustainability of our planet. She is also, an Independent Associate with Viridian Energy, a company that provides power from solar, wind and water generated here is the US,  directly to you, right now.
