The fascinating story of America’s love of vitamins—and how it affects our health

Should I take a multivitamin? Does vitamin C really prevent colds? Can I get enough vitamin D from the sun? Are dietary supplements safe? How much of each vitamin do I need?

There’s no question that Americans are fascinated by vitamins and nutrition – we think that vitamins are always good for us, and that the more we can get, the better. But how much about vitamins do we really know? And how might the answer to that question affect the way we eat?

When it comes to vitamins, it turns out that the experts themselves are surprisingly short on answers. Yes, we need the thirteen dietary chemicals known as vitamins; without them, we would die. Yet despite a century of scientific research (the word “vitamin” was coined only in 1911), there is little agreement around even the simplest of questions, whether it’s exactly how much of each vitamin we each require or what these chemicals actually do.

Console Wars-Sega vs Nintendo-NPR Book of the Year-Blake Harris

    in Books

Console Wars author Blake J Harris Live with Scott Cluthe

NPR: Best book of the Year !

Seth Rogen from the forward: "The "Console Wars" between Nintendo and Sega is what began a series of events that will lead to the end of humanity as we know it."  (well of course!)

Console Wars—a mesmerizing, behind-the-scenes business thriller that chronicles how Sega, a small, scrappy gaming company led by an unlikely visionary and a team of rebels, took on the juggernaut Nintendo and revolutionized the video game industry.

In 1990, Nintendo had a virtual monopoly on the video game industry. Sega, on the other hand, was just a faltering arcade company with big aspirations and even bigger personalities. But that would all change with the arrival of Tom Kalinske, a man who knew nothing about videogames and everything about fighting uphill battles. His unconventional tactics, combined with the blood, sweat and bold ideas of his renegade employees, transformed Sega and eventually led to a ruthless David-and-Goliath showdown with rival Nintendo.

The battle was vicious, relentless, and highly profitable, eventually sparking a global corporate war that would be fought on several fronts: from living rooms and schoolyards to boardrooms and Congress.

Based on over two hundred interviews with former Sega and Nintendo employees, Console Wars is the underdog tale of how Kalinske miraculously turned an industry punchline into a market leader.

Blake J. Harris is a writer and filmmaker based out of New York. He is currently codirecting the documentary based on this book, which is being produced by Scott Rudin, Seth Rogen, and Evan Goldberg. He will also serve as an executive producer on Sony's feature-film adaptation of Console Wars.

America In The Valley of Decision, with Scott Bennett . FullFledgeNews

    in News

Hi all , welcome again to { The Full Fledge show }  EPISODE : " America In The Valley of Decision "    And as usual everyone The Call in Number is #  ( 347 ) - 826 - 9733    #                                                                                              So  where do people find themselves when they discover they are in the valley of decision? Every moment in life is a gift from the One Who made all things. And, though He made everything and everyone, a very few of His children know and believe in Him. So, in His sovereign will, the Almighty God brings people into places and circumstances that require decisions. Many of the decisions people make are about practical things and seem to be removed from moral considerations. But that is an illusion. Every choice any of us make is in the context of a moral matrix. Some foods are healthy, but only in moderation. Some clothing can lead to immorality. Occupations can be very evil, and lead people into legalized cruelty. Some spiritual callings can be utterly evil and deceptive. Who, then, will lead people in the paths of righteousness?

Tonight we are going to consider what it means to be walking in the valley of decision. I am your host for the Sunday edition of the Full Fledge Show. The Call in number is: 347-826-9733
