The fascinating story of America’s love of vitamins—and how it affects our health
Should I take a multivitamin? Does vitamin C really prevent colds? Can I get enough vitamin D from the sun? Are dietary supplements safe? How much of each vitamin do I need?
There’s no question that Americans are fascinated by vitamins and nutrition – we think that vitamins are always good for us, and that the more we can get, the better. But how much about vitamins do we really know? And how might the answer to that question affect the way we eat?
When it comes to vitamins, it turns out that the experts themselves are surprisingly short on answers. Yes, we need the thirteen dietary chemicals known as vitamins; without them, we would die. Yet despite a century of scientific research (the word “vitamin” was coined only in 1911), there is little agreement around even the simplest of questions, whether it’s exactly how much of each vitamin we each require or what these chemicals actually do.

Scottt Cluthe Live with Dr George Brown on his work and books, The Overparenting Epidemic and Blending Families Successfully. Call in at 347-308-8478
Whatever we label it, overparenting—anxious, invasive, overly attentive, and competitive parenting—may have finally backfired. As we witness the first generation of overparented children becoming adults in their own right, many studies show that when baby boomer parents intervene inappropriately––with too much advice, excessive favors, and erasing obstacles that kids should negotiate themselves––their “millennial” children end up ill-behaved, anxious, narcissistic, entitled youths unable to cope with everyday life. The obsession with providing everything a child could possibly need, from macrobiotic cupcakes to 24/7 tutors, has created epidemic levels of depression and stress in our country’s youth, but this can be avoided if parents would just take a giant step back, check their ambitions at the door, and do what’s really best for their kids.
Written by a noted psychiatrist and a parenting specialist, The Overparenting Epidemic is a science-based yet humorous and practical book that features an easy-to-read menu of pragmatic, reasonable advice for how to parent children effectively and lovingly without overdoing it, especially in the context of today’s demanding world
Scott CLuthe LIVE with Dr Micheal and Sarah Bennett.Call in:347-308-8478
In F*CK FEELINGS: One Shrink's Practical Advice for Managing All Life's Impossible Problems (Simon & Schuster; September 1, 2015), veteran psychiatrist and APA Distinguished Fellow Dr. Michael Bennett and his comedy-writing daughter Sarah Bennett present the anti-hero of the self-help section and the cut-to-the-chase therapy session we have all been waiting for.
Most people attend therapy to try and change something they don’t like about themselves or to figure out a way to change another person. The Bennetts argue that goals like this are impossible to achieve, and therefore deflating and counter-productive. In F*CK FEELINGS, they explain that the real F words in life are “feelings” and “fairness,” and promise that any situation life throws at you is manageable if you can keep your sense of humor, bend your wishes to fit reality, restrain your feelings, manage bad behavior, and do what you think is right.
The Bennetts focus on realistic goals and acceptance.. F*CK FEELINGS gives us solutions to 140 of the problems that land on Dr. Bennett’s couch – family, love, work, self-esteem, garden variety assholes and more.
Dr. Michael I. Bennett, educated at both Harvard College and Harvard Medical School, is a board-certified psychiatrist. He has been in private practice for almost thirty years. He is the author of F*CK FEELINGS, with his daughter Sarah Bennett, he lives with his wife in Boston.
Sarah Bennett has written for magazines, the Internet, television, and books. She also spent two years writing for a monthly sketch comedy show at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater in New York..F*CK FEELINGS, written with her father Dr. Michael I. Bennett, is her first book.

Quieting the Mind leads to great decision making...with Kimberly Jonas.
Kimberly Jonas is a self-employed spiritual coach and inspirational author. After being steeped in the corporate world for nearly 10 years as a project manager and art director, she left that world in 2002 to teach yoga, meditation and other mindful practices. Her corporate and spiritual worlds have been entwined ever since – she has owned a 30-employee spa and studio, has her own line of healing essential oils, and recently self-published three volumes of poetry. All while helping others to access their full potential through practices designed to quiet the mind and ignite inner wisdom.
Quality Decisions Start with Quieting the Mind
1. In all of your business ventures over the years, do you feel like you’ve always worked from the place of a quiet mind?
2. We’re talking about quieting the mind as a source of good decision making. Can you speak a little bit about how poor decisions come from an “unquiet mind” so that we have a little more context?
3. With your experience in corporate America complimented by running your own enterprise, how have you used "quieting the mind" to make the best decisions?
With your experience in corporate America complimented by running your own enterprise, when do you feel that “quieting the mind” served you the most?
4. Can you help me to debunk this idea that you have to meditate for hours in order to have a quiet mind? I think the idea can turn people off because it feels like you have to undertake a bunch of major, involved practices to cultivate a quiet mind.
5. Do you believe it’s possible to get to a point where the mind is always quiet?
6. Give an example of a decision you made that was not preceded by "quieting?" Moving to Colorado to work for a family owned business?
