Joining co-hosts Terry Boi, Ina and Michelle on “Can We Talk for REAL” Blog Talk Radio tomorrow night Wednesday, June 4th will be Mona Noriega let’s talk about if you have been discriminated and did not know where to go. Every city has a Human Relations Department. Join us as we talk to Mona about the department that handles the complaints, steps you need to take to file claims, and how to recognize you have been discriminated against.
Mona Noriega, appointed by Mayor Emanuel in 2011, serves as the Chairman and Commissioner of the Chicago Commission on Human Relations (CCHR). The CCHR works to address prejudice and discrimination, supports victims of hate crimes, and enforces the City of Chicago’s anti-discrimination laws. Currently she is a member of the LGBTQ Coalition for Immigrant Rights and annually serves as an Honorary Co-Chair of Chicago Build the Peace Committee and is working on a Hate Crimes Summit to be held at UIC on October 20, 2014. Mona’s initial community organizing work began with lesbian mothers, creating safe space and opportunities to celebrate family. From there she began to produce chapbooks for friends who were poets and Lesbians of Color (LOC) cultural productions at Mountain Moving Coffee House, and then as a member of Latina Lesbianas en Nuestro Ambiente (LLENA) helped organized performance art and the International Women’s Day Dances in the 1990s.
Since January of 2014, I have gone on a personal and professional quest to research the importance of technology literacy in the workplace...and it truly amazes me how individuals today still take for granted the importance and necessity of technology literacy skills in the workplace. I came across article after article about the importance of being computer literate in the workplace, the importance of basic computer skills and the importance of computers skills as an office professional. Therefore I am re-focusing my training & consulting efforts to educate individuals on how to become more efficient, effective and productive users of technology with a strong focus on the Microsoft Office Suite applications. After-all, how can you ignore this statistic….according to Microsoft, 1.1 billion people (or 1 in 7 people on the planet) use Microsoft Office. Today’s broadcast will discuss how the very applications that sit on desktops at many places of work offer individuals more options and a greater ability to become successful employees in the workplace…the catch is enhance one’s technology skill sets, identify the issues and obstacles they face, and to begin integrating these new skills sets with the experience each individual possesses to minimize, if not, eliminate these obstacles.
I am starting with the workplace during this broadcast and I will discuss how to achieve e-squared-p at home, professionally, and academically on future broadcasts. So stop by my web site, www.tabtraining.com, or lookup TABRadio here on BlogTalkRadio.

In the past several years – the use of social networking has exploded. While much of the technology provides incredible opportunities for businesses – there are also potential legal pitfalls for employers. This podcast with Kelly Anderson of Lavelle Law, Ltd. will outline those disadvantages and offer insight to employers on what to expect.
What is workplace harassment?
Workplace harassment is any unwelcome or unwanted conduct that denigrates or shows hostility or an aversion toward another person on the basis of any characteristic protected by law, which includes an individual's race, color, gender, ethnic or national origin, age, religion, disability, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity, or other personal characteristic protected by law.
Why is harassment illegal?
Workplace harassment is a violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, and the State Fair Employment & Housing Act. Both the federal and state laws impose liability on employers for failing to remedy or prevent a hostile or offensive work environment of which management knew or should have known about the workplace harassment.
So if the conduct of harassment is illegal, why does it continue, and why do we continue to allow it?
We will examine the various facets of harassment and discrimination, and discuss what should be done in reporting this unlawful treatment.
