Hybrid Jazz - With Daniel Bennett & Michael Bowie!
Two of the most creative artists in Jazz, etc. (that EYE know, anyway!) are on the show this Tuesday, May 7th, 2013.
Daniel Bennett starts the fun at one - and he has great news: The Daniel Bennett Group's "Clockhead Goes to Camp" is available for your grateful ears :) Since 2004, Daniel has been turning out music to buy, but he has been playing for a lot longer. A multi-instrumentalis who zeroed in on saxophone at age ten and writes music via guitar, this highly regarded New Yorker wears even MORE hats. Besides leading his intuitive band, he also produces and promotes shows other than his own. He's quite good at being the spokesperson for these events - and it doesn't hurt when he shows up for them - Daniel is quite handsome as well as a talented/progressive musician. Who will not allow boxes to deter his vision. The Boston Herald calls what he does "Exploratory, Folk-Jazz Hybrid." Hah! Why do you think he's on the show?!
DC based Uber Bassist, Michael Bowie, is clearly one of those stunningly capable players that make your jaw drop. Some of the TRULY great in Jazz have thought so: Betty Carter, Abbey Lincoln, Sarah Vaughn - because Michael played for them. By request. He studied under the great Keter Betts, is a National Endowment For Jazz Studies Award Winner, and has created "organic" (he loves that word!) repercussions from this region to international circles. Hey, if you're playing with Dee Dee Bridgewater, you're getting recognition - okay? Here's the reason why Michael is visiting: he has a group, Sine Qua Non (we'll ask questions :) Comprised of some of the most brilliant musical minds heard anywhere, this is (Michael's words), "Classical theory and fused with rhythms from around the world." As we say on Facebook: OMG - at three!
Get ready!

Around Citi Live with The 7 Line's Darren Meenan
Around Citi Live returns to the airwaves as we welcome The 7 Line's Darren Meenan. Meenan, perhaps one of the most notable Mets fans, started his brand in 2010 and has seen himself profiled on CNN, the New York Post, and many other news sources. Perhaps his presence amongst the fanbase was felt most when he hosted The 7 Line Army's first group outing last year in support of R.A Dickey's 20th victory. This year, he'll kick off the season the same way the last one concluded with The 7 Line Army occupying center.
Join us for what promises to be a special interview.
