Cuccinnelli Saddled with Jackson; Banks Behind Payments
Chapter 1: Ken Cuccinelli Ticket Includes Controversial Lt. Gov.
First, a look at the race for governor in Virginia where the contest has become all the more controversial with the nomination of E.W. Jackson for Lieutenant Governor. Jackson will join Ken Cuccinelli on the ticket as Lieutenant Governor, a decision made by Republican Party activists over the weekend. Jackson is a firebrand conservative who has called homosexuals "perverted" and "very sick people psychologically, mentally and emotionally.” Just a couple of years ago, Jackson called the Constitution’s three-fifths compromise an “anti-slavery” amendment. Might this doom the Virginia Republican Party’s effort to keep the executive mansion? A Quinnipiac poll out just over a week ago showed Democratic hopeful Terry McAuliffe beating Cuccinelli by 5 percentage points, but a Washington Post poll out a week earlier showed Cuccinelli up by 10 points. We talk to David Weigel, Slate political reporter.
Chapter 2: Banks Behind on Foreclosure Settlement Payments Since the housing crisis of 2008, several major banks, including Bank of American, Wells Fargo JP Morgan Chase and Citigroup agreed to pay homeowners more than $5.7 billion for shady lending practices. Such practices ranged from pushing subprime loans, discriminatory lending practices, and unjust foreclosures. However, according to a report by the Washington Post this week, those banks have paid less than what they settled to, leaving millions without needed relief. We talk to Debby Goldberg, Special project director, National Fair Housing Alliance.

Senate Candidate Ed Marksberry
Ed Marksberry is a man with a purpose. He is a man with ideas of how to make Kentucky better for everybody. As a 4th generation entuckian, Ed is well known and admired for the legacy of his family and the business he runs. He is a carpenter, a home builder and a consultant in the building of homes. He is a leader in his community, nominated in 2010 by the Kentucky Democratic Party to run in the Second District (KY2) for Congress. As a business owner, Ed knows all too well the challenges of running a business successfully and providing quality benefits for his employees. As a citizen, he is an advocate for the best quality of life for our citizens and the cooperation between business and government. Being a Democrat is a full time avocation, as Ed showed when he won the Democratic Man of the Year here in Kentucky. He has not only campaigned for himself, he has been a familiar face as a volunteer. In fact he has volunteered for every election since the Mongiardo era. He has helped others with their campaigns. Mongiardo for Senate, Mike Weaver for US Congress, and David Boswell for Congress are some of the campaigns he has helped on. When his country needed him, Ed was there. On Monday, May 20th, I will interview Kari Ilonummi, a bright young lad who plans to run for Congress as an Independent in 2014. Kari will be running against an old line Democrat in a district (Washington State's 2nd Congressional District) that has a heavy Democratic voter registration. Listen in to find out how Kari plans to win the seat. Note that Washington State only allows the top two vote getters in the primary to compete in the General Election. If Kari can get past the primary he will be on his own against the incumbent. This means if he can secure both the Independent and the Republican vote he should have a good chance of winning. And if we can all find a way to support him his chances will be even better.
