Host Derek Simon discusses the announced closing of Suffolk Downs after 79 years of hosting thoroughbred racing, relating it to the closing of Longacres Park in 1992.

Meet the first African American Stewardess hired by Delta Air Lines in1966 !
In all of the stories about aviation and its history, the stories of the first African American stewardesses have been left untold and unknown. We first took to the skies when flying was glamorous and exclusive and little girls dreamt of being stewadesses, models, or movie stars. We rubbed elbows with the elite and we traveled the world when few others could. We flew as pioneers in a global society long before the time of the Internet and globalization. We also kept our heads high facing down racial prejudice and discrimination. We lived as Stars in the Sky
Patricia Grace Murphy was the first African American Stewardess to break the color barrier for Delta Air Lines. Pat's stories and other pioneers in aviation are featured in my book Stars in the Sky which will be released in November. Visit the archives to hear the show and listen to my call in guest Terry Taylor another African American Stewardess featured in my book, exchange stories with Pat about the early years of flying. We were also honored to have Pat's first supervisior, June Huerman share some stories about those turbulent days and assisting Pat with her new life in aviation.
Please listen each week for updates on my book, or visit my website www.theflygirl10.com

Can't get enough dystopia? Tune in to Writestream on Tuesday, September 16 at 1 p.m. Eastern when Dariaanne welcomes Tracy Lawson, author of the 5-star rated novel Counteract, to the show:
The Office of Civilian Safety and Defense has guarded the public against the rampant threat of terrorism for the last fifteen years with the full backing of the US government. Their carefully crafted list of Civilian Restrictions means no concerts or sporting events, no travel, no social media, no cash transactions, and no driver's licenses for eighteen-year-olds Tommy and Careen. The OCSD has even outlawed grocery stores, all in the name of safety.
Now, there's a new threat-airborne chemical weapons that could be activated at any time. But the OCSD has an antidote: Just three drops a day is all it takes to stay safe. It's a small price to pay for safety.
Or is it...
Dariaanne will chat with the multi-talented Tracy about her latest book and amazing writing career, which began in high school. During the live show, host and guest welcome your calls and comments at (347) 945-7246.
In the second hour, stay tuned for the Right Wing Riot with The Luminaries of Liberty - Scary Smart, Ms. Always Right and The Prince of Whitebread. It's Public Service Satire we can believe in!

A lot of folks have been talking about the Triple Crown this past week, and some think that it should be dumbed down to accommodate...to accommodate the "younger generation" who were born after 1978.
Ummm...is the sport going to change everything, to meet the needs of people who aren't necessarily becoming fans? Tonight I'll discuss the logical place to begin the journey toward horse racing fandom. How to turn casual observers and potential fans into lifelong fanatics. Hint: it rhymes with, "source."
