Two lunatic wackjobs discuss debating and logical fallacies.

    in Current Events

The title itself displays TWO of the cardinal sins of debate and argument - "poisoning the well (casting doubt on someone/something beforehand by using demeaning language" and "ad hominem attacking (personal attacks on your opponent rather than facts)".  I see it all over Facebook, on TV, in "the comments section", and in my personal and professional life:  individuals and groups committing fallacies, by not defending their position and instead resorting to derogatory language, misleading statements, and deceitful half-truths.  Brad Shilling will join me to discuss this from the perspective of a Toastmaster member, and hopefully we can come up with a few humorous examples.  Call us at 646-721-9605, or listen live at BlogTalkRadio.

Using the NFL Draft to fix two teams and debating Winston and Mariota

    in Sports

On this week’s episode of the Mocking the Draft podcast, Matthew Fairburn of Syracuse.com and Dan Kadar of SB Nation are fixing two teams. That’s right. They’ll take a look at two NFL teams and figure out their perfect NFL Draft.

They'll also debate the merits of Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota, the two best quarterbacks in the 2015 NFL Draft. Why? Becuase this is a draft show and they're contractually obligated to do so (not really). Which is better? Are Winston's off-field issues too big of a concern? Are Mariota's on-field issues a bigger deal?

They'll talk that and much more on the latest episode of the MtD podcast.

Is "Street" Debating Buffoonery and Distraction Or Does It Help Black People?

    in Politics

On this episode of Field Afrikan Radio we will discuss "street" debating. Many of us are entertained by Black people debating/arguing over their spiritual, political or economical beliefs but is this a good thing? Are more Black people being saved or hurt by this method of teaching? Also, are you okay with the monitary gain individuals make off of this method of teaching/entertainment? We have our views on this subject but we would love to hear yours. Are the youtube street debates buffonery or is it something positive for Black people?

Give your relationship a makeover by Dr. Margot Brown

    in Christianity

Greetings to all God's people I thank each of you for your love and support of the ministry. Remember God loves you with an everlasting love. My guest tonight is Dr. Margot Brown a Licensed marriage therapist, Dr. Margot E. Brown, sees a common trend in what her patients argue about: breakdown in communication, stresses about money, sex, and the division of daily chores. Her new book, Kickstart Your Relationship Now! Move on or Move Out!, introduces a plausible solution to help couples solve these issues: the 72-Hour Rule.

According to Dr. Brown, who holds a Doctorate in Psychology, “you should only discuss (not argue) things that happened over the past 72 hours. There’s no benefit to debating about the past from months or years ago. Couples must distance themselves from the past and focus on the now. Further, if you are upset about something, but decide it isn’t really worth bringing up in conversation to state your worries within the first 72 hours, the rule says to let it go.”

Kickstart Your Relationship Now! provides step-by-step exercises to help partners communicate better as well as strategies to tackle tough issues including infidelity, anger, intimacy issues, and domestic abuse. Loving someone and being in a committed relationship is never easy, and Dr. Brown asserts that you can’t be afraid to be honest with yourself or your partner.

In the book Dr. Brown discusses:

    ·  Constructively changing your behavior, or how to approach the topic of changing your partner’s behavior.

    ·  How to decide whether it’s time to break up or is it worth trying to salvage your relationship.

Politics Done Right - "Silence is Surrender"

    in Politics

Silence is Surrender I want all those folks who are undecided, non-committal and in the middle to tell me why. You know who you are. You’re the ones who let the rest of us on the two ends of the spectrum do all the debating, discussing, arguing, and posting of all manner of articles, memes, tweets, and blog post on subjects ranging from climate change, marriage equality, women’s right, money in politics, trade deals, political candidates, and on, and on, and on. Why? Why don’t you participate? Why do you leave the important issues to others? Call me and help me to understand how it is that two-thirds of you didn’t even bother to exercise your most precious right in the last election? Join guest host Greg Russak for this important discussion at 1:00 PM today.
