Tonight, we're going to take a trip in the throwback machine. While Sharon Jones isn't an old act, you'd never know it the first time hearing her. The Dap-Kings being the house band of Daptone Records, they are spearheads of a revivalist movement that aims to capture the essence of funk/soul music as it was at its height in the mid-1960s to mid-1970s. Part of the way this is achieved is to shun modern digital recording methods in favour of using traditional analogue recording equipment. The type of instruments used by the band may also be considered limited to those that would have been available up until the mid-'70s.
Tonight, we are treating you to their 2002 debut, Dap-Dippin' With Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings. This is music you'll even want your mama to hear! All this plus NPR news, & more. Don't miss it!
Who: Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings

Tonight, we revisit one of our favorite artists, from the revivalist Daptone Records label, Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings. But tonight, we are playing a great record from them, 100 Days, 100 Nights. Once a prison guard, she then signed to Daptone Records, and since Daptone only uses analog recording & mixing - they issued 45 records, & collectors snapped them up thinking they were an old group. The truth was, Sharon Jones was new on the music scene at Daptone, & collectors later found out they were buying new records, not old ones.
Ernest Radio Network has played a lot of Daptone artists, as the label gave ERN permission to play any of their artists, but tonight you're in for such a treat with 100 Days, 100 Nights. NPR News, & the usual fare included as well.
Live show but no sorry callers
