Ebony and Ivy with Dr. Craig Steven Wilder

    in History

    Rebroadcast

Join author Craig Steven Wilder for a discussion of his research and book - Ebony & Ivy: Race, Slavery, and the Troubled History of America's University. Craig Steven Wilder is a professor of American history at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and has taught at Wiliams College and Dartmouth College.

Many of America's revered colleges and universities - from Harvard, Yale, and Princeton to Rutgers, Williams College, and UNC - were soaked in the sweat and the tears, and sometimes the blood of people of color. The earliest academies proclaimed their mission to Christianize the savages of North America, and played a key role in white conquest. Later, the slave economy and higher education grew up together, each nurturing the other. Slavery funded colleges, built campuses, and paid the wages of professors. Enslaved Americans waited on faculty and students; academic leaders aggressively courted the support of slave owners and slave traders. Significantly, as Wilder shows, our leading universities, dependent on human bondage, became breeding grounds for the racist ideas that sustained them.

Ebony and Ivy is a powerful and propulsive study and the first of its kind, revealing a history of oppression behind the institutions usually considered the cradle of liberal politics.

WHO I am with Cheryl and Craig

Now that’s a tough question to answer, I guess it depends on any given day.  For many survivors it’s not about who but more about why.  Is there a purpose and what the purpose is.  You may ask yourself what did I do to deserve this or you may have the same thoughts from a grateful place and ask yourself what did I do to deserve this!  The grateful heart will make all the difference in the world

In an ever ending world that is being torn apart by the sinisterism that is brain injury.  A mind rattled with the random thoughts and perplexities of a world that is moving too fast for our minds to process just what the hell is going on.

Tonight we will discuss that, brain storm it.  As well I want to chat about Cheryl’s new movie coming out Who Am I to Stop It.  Check out the trailer it is incredible.  Check it out take a look https://vimeo.com/155924543

LETS GET POLITICAL 2 - LIVE FROM 2016 TBI CONFERENCE WITH CRAIG SICILIA

LETS GET POLITICAL 2 - LIVE FROM 2016 TBI CONFERENCE WITH CRAIG SICILIA
Wow! What an election cycle. As I observe the candidate’s, but more important the system, the parties, the game. Some call it the establishment, or democrats or republicans. It don’t matter what you call it, everyone gets it’s a mess. It is not a mess because of the current candidate’s it’s a mess because of all of the politicians. Politicians are worried, the massive special interests are worried, and the people who control things are panicking!

Let’s start off that as Bernie says it’s rigged. It is, your vote really don’t count unless they want it to. The Dems have super delegates to have the process go their way. The Rep have the contested convention. And all the powers and money that be are conspiring to take out the idealists Sanders and Trump. There is the 3rd party ticket Trump and Sanders screw the democrats and republicans. If those two could find common ground and put it together. There really not that far off from each other, maybe they would be balance to one another.

One never knows right! Any way lots going on the democrats are trying to silence the republicans and demonize them. The republicans haven’t been able to make any big deals. Nothing of significance is coming out of the republican held house and senate. And a president who pushes executive order to change society the way he sees fit. What a mess. Now there are 50 million people with disabilities in the U.S. Let’s get smart, let’s be part of taking back our country. How can we influence, change in a way that makes our country shine.
