The View Up Here on #COP21, climate, costs and politics

    in Politics

Canada and its environment. Its air, water, lands, coastlines and glaciers. The last ten years is not a very positive recent past. The Harper Government withdrew from the Kyoto Accord, did absolutely nothing at Copenhagen and stayed on message that climate change was fake. A ruse by enviroterrorists to deny "Canadians" the "benefits" of a resource economy on steroids and wearing a blindfold. A decade later and Canada is the poster boy for failure in environmental stewardship.

COP21 in Paris promises to be different. The increase in major emitter participation in real planning has never been higher. There have never been so many public policies from nations on climate before. Have we heard this before? Well, yes and no. Despite the new level of urgency and co-operation, there will also be a massive corporate presence at the tables. How can one deny the inevitable industry being built to deal with this mess. And it won't be cheap even if it were.

Prime Minister Trudeau will be joined by Premiers, Environment Ministers and scientists in Paris. A united front for action is the narrative. Alberta has led the way domestically with introduction of  "Carbon Plan". Astroturf lobbies and sycophantic politicians warn of the economy disappearing. Yet the industry says they can work with it and it is reasonable on initial appearance. Cue the CPC end of days fundraising videos. Apparently, change is still evil.

Some regions are much better equipped for the shift from carbon to renewables than others and that's just domestically. Globally it's a much more visible issue. This is where our old friend Politics comes in. Recent events have basically outlawed protests of any kind in Paris. The efforts will now be dispersed around the world but may be even stronger given the access by all to be heard.

Lots to look at in two hours, but we will do our best and you are invited.

Beautiful from the Inside Out:SPECIAL:Joys of Giving: NYC Basket Brigade

    in Self Help

Amanda Scocozzo, CPC is a certified coach with a passion for contribution and change, leading her clients to discover the best version of themselves.

With a break from the regular show, Amanda will be speaking with Anna Olivo to discuss history of the New York Basket Brigade. Anna will share her tips and knowledge of what is involved in creating a successful event based upon her vast knowledge and years of experience.

    About the Basket Brigade:

The New York Basket Brigade is built on a simple notion: one small act of generosity on the part of one caring person can transform the lives of hundreds. It takes only one light to dispel the darkness, and even just one basket or a few, to bring hope! A Basket Brigade takes place when one individual prepares one basket to personally deliver to a needy family or individual.

The New York Basket Brigade is associated with the  International Basket Brigade, providing baskets of food and household items for an estimated 2 million people annually in countries all over the world through local grass roots efforts. Throughout the years International Basket Brigade volunteers deliver food, clothing, and hope to those who need it most. We would be honored to have you become a part of this truly wonderful event in your local community.

Election 42 breakdown with Mark Bourrie & Matt Millar

    in Politics

Hey Canada! You want change? You got it. It wasn't 1993, but it did the job. A Liberal majority. A Conservative opposition. A New Democrat third party. The Bloc doubled their presence and Liz May once again bears the standard of the Green Party. Early indication is not one, but two parties at the least will be having leadership contests in 2016.

Mark Bourrie returns and Matt Millar makes his first appearance on The View Up Here to dissect, discuss, dispute, demystify and debunk Election 42. Strategies, social media, good ideas and horrifically bad ideas. Winners, losers and the lucky. The first election in Canada not subject to the time zone blackout. And the media. Oh, the media.

Tune in, join the chat, call in and have some input. Join us!

The View Up Here & Mark Bourrie make the new government priority list

    in Politics

November 4 is the day. The new government is sworn in. On one hand we have campaign promises. On the other we have obvious priorities. Do they intersect? How much stupidity will the Trudeau administration be committed to from all the senseless litigation courtesy of unconstitutional Harper legislation? There will be as many different priorities as people you ask. Expectations are a bitch. But a majority insulates against immediate demands. With 150 rookies in caucus, Cabinet will be an interesting selection process.

Mark Bourrie (@MarkBourrie) is an award winning Canadian journalist, best selling author, historian and lecturer at Carleton University and the University of Ottawa. His work has also appeared in many major magazines and newspapers. Mark has a BA in History from the University of Waterloo, a diploma in Public Policy and Administration from the University of Guelph, a Masters in Journalism from Carleton University and a Doctorate in Canadian media history from the University of Ottawa.

Join us as Mark and the intrepid host (haha) discuss how priorities can be gleaned from a massive pile of problems left behind by the CPC gong show. Don't let us skip or omit anything. Call in and let us know!

The View Up Here & @ABCVeterans2015 talk Anyone But Conservative

    in Politics

After a decade of neglect, unspent funding, office closures, staff reductions, ignorant Ministers and blatant misinformation from the Harper government, Canada's veterans are standing against all this and more for Election 42. From a Veteran's Ombudsman that was "not renewed" for doing his job, to the unfair implementation of the Veteran's Charter, to a new generation of veterans that are finding hardship upon discharge, things must change now.

Anyone But Conservative (ABC) was first coined by Newfoundland Premier Danny Williams. In 2014, veteran Ronald Clarke started a campaign called ABC. In 2015, veteran Thomas Beaver joined him and Canadian Veterans ABC Campaign was born. After extensive collaboration with veteran's groups and advocates nationwide, the organization was readied for action. The common issue was that this Conservative government refused to work with anyone.

ABC Veterans 2015 have three main goals. First, the fair treatment of all veterans. Second, to inform the Canadian public how veterans are being treated by this CPC regime. Third, to remove the Harper government from power. This group does not support any political party, but certainly opposes one. This group does not speak for all veterans. Operating expenses are generated by private donations from individuals, sign sales and private business donations. Over 18,000 independent businesses have supported to date. After this election, the group will stay operational and work with the new government to make sure we never get to this place again.

Veterans deserve our respect, our attention and our support. Tune in and learn why "ABC" must happen in October 19th.
