For some people, giftedness and talents are squirreled away in moments of scarcity, secrecy and privacy. For others giftedness and talents are to be shared freely with the world. On today’s show we celebrate the latter with very special people who really want to make a difference in the world.
Living a life of comfort wasn’t enough for our first guest. She’s gone on to start advocacy groups for women, was the Ambassador to Austria under the Clinton Administration and wrote a memorable musical piece during a personal transition in her life.
That’s Swanee Hunt, a philanthropic globe trotter whose musical composition, The Witness Cantata will be performed this Sunday here in Boston. With Swanee is Rev. Dr. Gloria White Hammond, a driving force who empowers women from Sudan to South Boston.
And we’ll pay tribute to diversity pioneer Dr. Roosevelt Thomas, Jr. who recently died suddenly in his home in Atlanta. Joining me to discuss his expansive life work is Mary-Frances Winters, and well respected diversity professional whose longtime membership in the Diversity Collegium provides the perspective of why Dr. Thomas mattered so much in the field of diversity and inclusion.

Mr. Rambo is also the proud recipient of the 2010 Sally Award in Arts Education, presented by the Ordway Theatre for the Performing Arts, as well as a Minnesota Black Music Award, also in 2010. His honors and awards include Young Audience Art of the Year, McKnight Theatre Artist Fellowship, Minnesota State Arts Board Artist Fellowship, and both the University of Minnesota Century Council Community Award and Outstanding Community Service Award, to name a few.

For years Lauren traveled the country with her Harmonies of Healing Progam and Sing for Your Soul, teaching people to sing both in groups and private settings, With her chants and her singing crystal bowls she also led healing sessions. The last time I saw Lauren was at Christmas time in 2011 where she put together the Christmas program at my church.
Then came 2012 and her health challenges began. Hear her story of healing and recovery as well as the beautiful music that has always been an inspiration for herself and others.
