  • Can A Boycott Of Christmas Gift Buying Bring Racial Justice?

    in Women

The 20th anniversary of the Million Man March is being promoted with the words "Justice or Else!"  What's the or else? In recent speech, Minister Louis Farrakhan called for African Americans to boycott Christmas as a response to racial injustice. How can we force justice by the withdrawal of our 1.9 trillion dollars from the U.S. economy during the season most businesses depend upon for their yearly profits? Who are we hoping to hurt with our boycott? How will their financial distress lead to a change of discriminatory laws? The procecution of police who killed citizens? The passing of sensible gun laws? The release of falsely accused prisoners? Do we need to work out a specific strategy to make sure our lack of buying gifts for friends and family produces the desired effects? Will enough people participate? Do we need to tie this boycott to a specific piece of legislation? Give us your views on the meaning of "justice or else!" What threat can we collectively carry out that can force a change and bring justice

About K.D. Carrillo:  I have always dreamed of being a writer. So naturally I pursued first my bachelor's then my master's in history. Ok, so I had always dreamed of being a writer, but there was a time I fully planned on going to law school. Then I got married, became a mother, and somewhere switched paths.

I've discovered life is a journey that we learn about along the way. My writing is the same. I have a goal in mind, but my characters take on their own life and have their own ideas how to live them. I enjoy travelling with them. I'm glad life doesn't always turn out the way you plan.

    Life At The Moment

    in Blogs

Change in relationships, getting grounded, feeling safe without my life long safety net, and finding a peace in the eye of the storm. I have known throughout my life that I was in God's hands and I have sought him in organizations throughout my life. Now I live in the knowledge of His presence and His direction without any hope or desire to understand what will be coming next. My goal and joy is knowing that He is in charge and that He will direct me and that I live in abundance and peace. Change is not something that I am unfamiliar with, yet I have to admit that this has surprised me in many ways. The sense of knowing is uncanny and I look forward to the adventure of the day with the wonder of a child at Christmas.

Who's No Worse Than Anyone Else Running For President?

    in Politics Progressive

It's earlier than Christmas gear in August. 2016 conventions and elections are far away. Yet, news is oozing memes. It's the Republican clown car. Hillary awaits coronation. Yadda Yadda.

Feel free to call and rant on your own (718-664-6966, then punch 1 to show me you're on. No anonymous calls though.)

In lieu of callers, I'll present my own semi-reasoned analysis. Why did we have a scrum of 17 announced GOP candidates? Why did the Dems wait so long to step up to challenge Hillary Clinton, even though she laid a big egg running against an unknown state senator named Obama?

I propose there are different brains at work, and that the candidate strategy for eh two parties reflects how they think now and how they'd govern. It's a wonder to behold, awful in all senses of the term.

QUESTIONS FROM THE MARKETPLACE: "Hath God Said?" - 8/15/15

    in Religion

Questions From The Marketplace - "HATH GOD SAID" - 8/15/15

TODAY'S QUESTIONS FROM THE MARKETPLACE OF IDEAS:

Out of all the religions in the world today, what makes you think yours is the true one?
What's your definition of God? Why is this concept hard for religious folks to comprehend?
Is it true that because they share prophets that Judaism, Christianity and Islam are sister religions?
What proof do we have for God creating Heaven and earth and man in His image Where does evolution fit?
Jesus or Yeshua who is the Messiah?
So if I dream something and it comes to pass does that make me a prophet?
IF the "job" of the pastor is to lead believers.....Where is he/she leading them to? Who is leading the pastor?
Who committed the 1st sin, devil, Eve, Adam?
This is for those who claim to have left the church but still believe in CHRIST and are no longer a part of Christianity because of its ties the RCC: You blame the RCC with having brought to us Christmas and Easter. Do you also blame the RCC (Roman Catholic Church for all who don't know) for providing you with the King James bible, knowledge of CHRIST, and everything you know about salvation as well?
