Have you ever wondered what it would be like to trade in the modern world of globalization and technology and live off the grid? When Molly Caro May neared 30, she found herself yearning for a more settled life than her global upbringing had offered. She and her fiance, Chris impulsively moved to 107 acres of land in Montana, and begin the challenging process of building a traditional Mongolian yurt from scratch. This is Molly's first real home, and she finds herself wondering what "home" really means in our technology-saturated, mobile generation. In her book, The Map of Enough, she explores how we establish roots, experience a sense of place, and decide what kind of life we want to lead. If you have ever felt a longing for something more than what the modern world offers, you'll be fascinated by how her immersion in nature, the elements, and wildlife influences Molly's life and future. This interview originally aired on Empower Radio.

Our national heroes – players such as Friedenreich, Domingos da Guia, and Pele – transformed a sport that was British, aristocratic and white into a passion that was Brazilian, popular and pardo. Brazil took an English raw material, soccer, and created a sophisticated cultural product, soccer as art,” Jose Roberto Marinho wrote in the Folha de Sao Paulo newspaper in 2008.Marinho was echoing the anthropologist Gilberto Freyre, who in 1938 wrote that “our style of football seems to contrast with the European style because of a set of characteristics such as surprise, craftiness, shrewdness, readiness and I shall say individual brilliance and spontaneity, all of which express our mulattoism. Our passes…our tricks…that something which is related to dance, to capoeira (the Afro-Brazilian mixture of dance and martial art), mark the Brazilian style of football, which rounds and sweetens the game the British invented, the game which they and the other Europeans play in such an acute and angular way.”
Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.”
“The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy. The true neighbor will risk his position, his prestige and even his life for the welfare of others.”
“We must all learn to live together as brothers, or we will all perish together as fools.”Martin Luther King Jr.

Adorably, we humans see ourselves as rational animals. Research shows us to be anything but.
We are swayed in ways we wouldn’t expect in both our decision-making and how well we stick to our plans.
The good news is, the research also shows that our going off track happens in predictable ways. My guest tonight, Harvard Business School professor, Dr. Francesca Gino, will both lay out the forces that sidetrack us as we’re trying to accomplish our goals and offer guidelines that we can use to keep ourselves on track.
Dr. Gino will be discussing her recently-published book, Sidetracked: Why Our Decisions Get Derailed, and How We Can Stick to the Plan. Join us tonight and have your eyes opened about the psychological, social, and environmental stumbling blocks that keep us from getting where we want to go.
Join me and all my fascinating guests every Sunday, 7-8 p.m. Pacific Time, 10-11 p.m. Eastern Time, at blogtalkradio.com/amyalkon or subscribe on iTunes or Stitcher.
Please buy my science-based but funny book about why people are rude and how to change things, I SEE RUDE PEOPLE: One woman's battle to beat some manners into impolite society.
And please ask a newspaper near you to carry my award-winning syndicated, science-based advice column...if they don't already.

The two teams will begin facing off on Thursday night, April 24th. To help RU Podcast co-hosts Keith Schlosser and Dakota Schmidt preview such a series will be a healthy helping of quaified individuals.
Included in such a trio are Gino Pilato of DLeagueDigest.com, Reggie Hayes of The News-Sentinel, and Adam Johnson of SeaDubsCentral.com. It's safe to say each of these guests know the D-League, and the respective remaining teams, inside and out.

When two artists are drawn to the other's work, that's beautiful - regardless. When those two become friends via common goals - one living in California and the other in Oklahoma - that's destiny!
Such is the case with Gary Fuston and Gino Goss. Gino is a superb trumpter who also plays flugelhorn - and has a true world vision of instrumental music. In 2008, he formed Jammajazz and carved a new niche within independent music circles. By 2009, "Almost Famous" came to the attention of those ever-widening circles. And now we can call Gino - some few years later - an award-winner. You'll hear about that when our guest visits on Tuesday, 10/1.
And you'll also hear about Gino's popularity on GHP Radio - a creation from our other guest, Gary Fuston. Not only the host VIA GHP - but a musician as well - and a producer, promoter, composer and graphic arts designer.
Gary and Gino discovered each other while championing the cause of independent artists - and found that they had musical chemistry too strong not to pursue. A recent collaboration is getting major buzz: "Just Don't Want Another Broken Heart." Hypnotic and evocative of another era - yet giving you the impression that you're hearing a new kind of Hybrid - this song has been given yet another pair of wings with a remix featuring respected guitarist, Roberto Restuccia. That mix had its world premiere on the last GHP show - and we'll hear it again when Gino and Gary visit us!
Here's what is exciting about their visit in a BIG way: we can discover ways that we can push the cause of indies. It's one thing to lament the lack of support that an artist can be given - instead of moaning about it, Gino and Gary can suggest ways to help an effort that is now universal.
And it's First Tuesday on Hybrid Jazz - so EVERYBODY wins!
