MMSRS #27 - Live from Military.com's Spouse Experience in San Antonio!

    in Military

Come join host Dave Etter by calling (516) 453-9167 - I'll have the show on loudspeakers! It'll be great! The show will mirror alot of the event content, so, we will talk about surviving deployment souse issues like keeping the long distance romance alive, planning and keeping a deployment budget, what kind of friends to make/keep/avoid, how to stay married (no cheating), how to learn from the deployment and prepare for the next - or plan for seperation from the military. All things every inquiring spouse should know! BTW, this show will be toned down language-wise to support the onsite live nature of the event, ok, guys? Keep it "G" rated!

MMSRS is a weekly 2-hour web-based radio show, hosted by Army spouse Dave Etter, focusing on the needs of men married to serving military members, both men and women. Male Military Spouses are a small niche of military spouses, comprising of only 7%-8% of all military spouses. We feel left out, usually, at support functions - especially those designed with the spouses being identified as "wives"! We get cajoled at playgrounds where our kids play, from the mommies there who think we don't belong. We are proud SAHDs, who gave up our careers to follow our spouses as they dedicate thier lives to defend our country! Here, on this show, we come together and share beer recipes, diaper changing techniques, financial discoveries - manly things, for men! Airs Fridays at Noon CT, rated R for the cussing that can occur, and available for download (podcast) immediately following each show.

Table Talk: Caring for a Brother

    in Caregiving

Katherine Flannery Dering, author of Shot in the Head: A Sister's Memoir, A Brother's Struggle, shares her story of caring for her brother, Paul, who was diagnosed with schizophrenia at the age of 16.

    About Katherine:

Katherine Flannery Dering, author of Shot in the Head: A Sister’s Memoir, A Brother’s Struggle (Bridgeross Communications; 2014) is the second of ten children. Her younger brother, Paul, was diagnosed with schizophrenia at the age of 16. Busy with her own family and career, she helped with his care only intermittently for many years, but took on a more intense role after her parents death and especially after he developed physical ailments, as well as the psychological ones. She found herself very moved by the experience and writes about caring for her brother in hopes that it will enlighten the public on the role of caregivers. Katherine holds an MFA from Manhattanville College, a BA from Le Moyne College, an MA from the University of Buffalo and a MBA from the University of Minnesota at Duluth. Her poetry and essays have appeared in Inkwell Magazine, as well as The Bedford Record Review, Northwords Press, Sensations Magazine, Pandaloon Press, Poetry Motel and Pink Elephant Magazine. A narrative non-fiction piece, which later became a chapter of Shot in the Head, was included in Stories from the Couch, an anthology of essays about coping with mental illness. Dering taught Spanish briefly and is a former CFO at a community bank in New York. She currently serves on the board of directors of a startup bank and actively volunteers with the League of Women Voters and the Northern Westchester Community Center. The Joe Beam Show - Is Your Spouse Controlling You?

    in Relationships

In this episode, Joe will be tackling one of the top issues facing marriages today.

    Control.

Whether you are being controlled by your spouse or your spouse has told you that you are controlling, you won't want to miss this episode.

Control destroys marriages. It is the silent killer. It can linger for years and years while people lay in misery...wishing so badly for things to be different. Until one day, it just explodes. And the controlled spouse just can't take it anymore.

Maybe your marriage hasn't exploded yet. Or maybe you are now in extreme marital crisis because control has overtaken your marriage.

Either way, it can be saved. If you have a question or want to know more about how to change your marriage from being controlling to being loving and companionate again, don't miss the opportunity to call in your questions from 7 pm to 9 pm CST.
