Riane Eisler on Caring Equals Prosperity..Partnership Not Domination

    in Women

As a book-end to last week's show with socialist economist Richard Wolf, I have returning to the show, visionary, author and foremother, Riane Eisler, author of the famous and inspirational books, The Chalice and the Blade and Our Real Wealth.  Riane will discuss caring economics and why corporations would actually benefit from these practices rather than the predator capitalistic values employees have had imposed upon them.  We'll also discuss the topic raised in The Chalice and the Blade, namely "Domination vs Partnership" and the need for the shift toward the latter so there's a better quality of life for the most of us.  We'll chat about SWEIs - new economic indicators that are a better gauge of how people are doing than GDP which fails to show the vast income disparity so many are suffering from.  Riane will talk about the plight of women and the poverty they and their children still face, and not just in third world countries, but here in the United States, which does not bode well for any of our futures if we don't start forcing our political leaders to institute laws that promote REAL family values, and more caring and sharing of our national treasure so that its invested in people and life sustaining practices rather than war and corporate welfare.

Learn how caring actually equals prosperity and stop drinking the Kool-Aid of trickle down economics!

Table Talk: Caring for a Brother

    in Caregiving

Katherine Flannery Dering, author of Shot in the Head: A Sister's Memoir, A Brother's Struggle, shares her story of caring for her brother, Paul, who was diagnosed with schizophrenia at the age of 16.

    About Katherine:

Katherine Flannery Dering, author of Shot in the Head: A Sister’s Memoir, A Brother’s Struggle (Bridgeross Communications; 2014) is the second of ten children. Her younger brother, Paul, was diagnosed with schizophrenia at the age of 16. Busy with her own family and career, she helped with his care only intermittently for many years, but took on a more intense role after her parents death and especially after he developed physical ailments, as well as the psychological ones. She found herself very moved by the experience and writes about caring for her brother in hopes that it will enlighten the public on the role of caregivers. Katherine holds an MFA from Manhattanville College, a BA from Le Moyne College, an MA from the University of Buffalo and a MBA from the University of Minnesota at Duluth. Her poetry and essays have appeared in Inkwell Magazine, as well as The Bedford Record Review, Northwords Press, Sensations Magazine, Pandaloon Press, Poetry Motel and Pink Elephant Magazine. A narrative non-fiction piece, which later became a chapter of Shot in the Head, was included in Stories from the Couch, an anthology of essays about coping with mental illness. Dering taught Spanish briefly and is a former CFO at a community bank in New York. She currently serves on the board of directors of a startup bank and actively volunteers with the League of Women Voters and the Northern Westchester Community Center. Our Broadcast today will focus on an update of what is going on in our communities to bring about change that serves the needs of all and not just the wealthy. The recent announcement that the Village will be giving away - FREE OF CHARGE- 14 parking lots to a developer serves as reason enough to open an investigation... In 2007 Urban America offered to pay $750,000 per acre for the parking lots.  At that rate in today's market, the lots and the parking garage would come to $34 million dollar giveaway.

Your family is in danger of displacement.  Redeveliopment is designed to move you out and someone else in. Gentrification they call it when your community is changed based on the wealthy taking over and moving you out.  Rockaway Beach, NY is an example of this happening and families were broken and torn apart.  Downtown Brooklyn, is likewise a great example of raising rents beyond the ability of the established communiity to pay. Brownstones buildings moving from $200,000 to buy and increased to one million dollars...
