    America is on fire

    in Current Events

Today we witnessed citizens in the United States protesting for a $15 minimum wage, while doing so, they allowed speakers calling for the murder of police officers with firearms and even machetes. Something is seriously wrong with the direction people are moving it. First of all, a wage is $15 is what most local truck drivers make, including those who haul dangerous cargo such as Rock, sand, etc in dump trucks. you don't see these drivers demanding a higher wage, they do it because it's honest, and worth the value of the job. however we had a protest where people who flip burgers at fast food joints like Burger King and Mcd's who feel they deserve that same wage for working in the fast food industry. is something wrong with this picture? I don't see you people risking your life and job by driving the public roadways and could risk everything from a single accident that would cost everything. because as we all know, any truck accident is the drivers fault. that's the public view at least.

I was floored watching the stream from this protest where they allowed members of their party to actually suggest killing cops with machetes and guns, i didn't see anyone else mention this madness. we're all doomed. simple as that. where are the fema camps when we need them the most?

The author team of "Sonrise in Sweetland" drops by The G-ZONE!

    in Books

Sleepy little Sweetland is getting ready for Easter, and the excitement of the preparations and distractions are enough to provide a little craziness for your humdrum days.

Will and Carlie split up within minutes of getting engaged.
Celia deals with her large family scattered hither and yon, a sudden critical illness, and concern for a foster child with PTSD.
Rozene wonders what ever happened to all the spare time she used to have before marrying Mike and adopting four teenagers.
Nathan grumbles over losing his inheritance, leaving college to take on a menial job as an orderly at the hospital, and his family—or lack thereof.
And Mary Ellen worries that her five active children will prove too much for the elderly and aristocratic Virginia Dansforth Livingston Thompson, especially when an enemy of Virginia causes the angst to rise.

We dedicate this collection of Sweetland shorts to our writing sister and friend, Karen Kosman, who had a story planned and underway for this series when she fell ill. We want her to know how much we missed her joining in on our chats about the series, writing her imaginative stories, and spreading her nature on all of us. We send our get well wishes on her behalf heavenward to our dear Lord and Savior, and we praise God she’s on the mend.

Military Monday with John D. Gresham With USNI Press Author Dwight R, Messimer

    in History

It is a sociological and historic fact that the defining moment for the present generation of Americans, were the terrorist attacks of 9/11. But as devastating as the attacks of September 11th, 2001 were in terms of lives lost and property destroyed, they were hardly the first use of terrorist/unconventional warfare on American soil during our history. However, this quaint notion that our time is somehow different from the past is so wrong that it is positively laughable. As early as the American Civil War over 150 years ago, agents from the Confederate intelligence services sought to burn down large sections of New York City with "Greek Fire" pyrotechnics. And during World War I, the United States of America was the target of what was arguably the largest and best structured terrorist campaign in our history. Run by German Army and Naval Intelligence in a joint operation, the effort ran three extremely successful sabotage cells on the eastern seaboard and Gulf Coast, along with supporting a clandestine cargo submarine-based shipping line to bring raw materials through the British blockade back to the Fatherland. In addition, these cells and their controlling agency back in Germany were also complicit in a number of security operations, and even had a hand in the famous "Zimmerman Telegram" incident.

The sabotage cell based in Baltimore is the subject of this week's edition of Military Monday (#MilitaryMonday on the Writestream Radio Netwok (@Writestream)). Tune in today at 1 PM EDT as bestselling author, journalist, documentary film producer, and host John D. Gresham talks with U.S. Naval Institute Press (@USNI_Books) author Dwight R. Messimer. Mr. Messimer is the author of the new book THE BALTIMORE SABOTAGE CELL, a compelling story of vast destruction by Germany against America.

Some Nautical Tales by Captain Wilbur Vantine

    in Books

Join us at the Campfire for a few sea tales....

    Author House:

Some Nautical Tales covers the adventures and experiences of Captain Wilbur H. Vantine, as he worked his way up from Ordinary Seaman and sailed as Ship Master on tramo freighters in the United States Merchant Marine. Along the way he was able to “see the world” at a very interesting time in world affairs. During WWII, he served on two ships in the war zones of the southwest Pacific and on another in the North Atlantic to the United Kingdom. He obtained his first command in 1951 at age twenty-six. While sailing as Ship Master, he did difficult navigation among icebergs in the far north; had his ship breaking up and losing three of its four lifeboats in a “super” storm, was confined with his crew on a Liberty ship, in ballast, during a winter-time crossing of the North Atlantic, with a killer virus on board, sailed to Korea before, during and after the Korean War, took action to minimize damage from an un-avoidable collision and directed actions to separate the two ships which were connected by their anchor chains, made an ocean crossing with growing cracks in the main deck threatening to cause his ship to break-up, steamed transpacific with a cargo of coal undergoing spontaneous combustion, had his ship to boarded and crew attacked by a large and angry mob in Yugoslavia, had a shifting cargo of army tanks threatening to knock out the sides of his ship during a storm, and had unique interaction with both ship and shore personalities. Based on actual experiences. The numerous photographs were taken by the author, except where noted otherwise.
